Samsung EVO 870 How to Fix Raw Partition to NTFS [Assistance Needed]

Hello everyone,

I could use some assistance on how to solve my scenario. I've posted a lot more information here (link below) with screenshots.

SSD Specifications:
Samsung 2.5" EVO 870 1TB
Partition 1 on letter X:\ with 512,001 MB as NTFS on MBR. Formatted with 4096 cluster size. Approximately, 280 GB was used and written to. Note that this SSD has no physical damage and is in excellent health. Samsung software disk quality checks, firmware updates and full format were ran before putting into use.

Scenario:
Running robocopy.exe from the SSD to cloud storage overnight. Awoken in morning to find SSD in 'corrupt' state and unable to access data via Windows Explorer. USB C ports were intact, no removal of wires or loss of power and unknown why this has occurred.

Instead of running chkdsk.exe F: /f /v /x as this has the potential to generate folder found.000. What software/solutions would you use to first backup the corrupted data (with damaged file systems) and then fix the drive? Perhaps MiniTool Partition Wizard and MiniTool Power Data Recovery or Disk Editor and Data Recovery Software (DMDE).

In my opinion Seems like drive is toast and no going back.

Last time I had an issue with a partition going RAW, chkdsk fixed it right away.

It happened repeatedly later, and it was a boot drive, but that is another story.

I would probably use Macrium Reflect to clone the drive, or something like that.

Yeah working on the source data is no good.

Start with a bit-bit clone/image then modify the image or source.

I would personally bit-bit to another drive. Then work with that drive and leave the original alone.

What software would you recommend for a bit-bit transfer to another device?

dd or clonezilla to either another drive or image and take it from there. If the only thing broken is the partition you will atleast have a 1 to 1 backup of whatever was on it. From there you can probably use some paid software to recover it.

Problem I'm having is that I have x2 identical Samsung 1TB EVO 870 and running software to clone one drive to another, the software isn't showing both drives (only one). Anyone know best program to use to workaround this from experience? Secondary Samsung SSD partitioned correctly. Clonezilla appears to be running into this issue.

--- Update on Feb 21st 2023 --- I've updated the forum here (https://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardw ... tfs-2.html). I have cloned the corrupt drive to an image using DMDE. Then, I have cloned this image to another SSD drive to simulate the 'broken corrupted drive'. Now, I'm asking for solutions on how to 'fix' this drive and return RAW to NTFS. As per forum linked above (with screenshots) I have attempted 'convert', 'chkdsk', and MiniTool Partition Wizard. Current progress, I've cloned the first 2048 sectors of a working drive then will clone to first 2048 sectors of the 'cloned broken drive' using DMDE. First attempt didn't work, so I shall try again with identical device (as I have x2 Samsung EVO 870, one is the original corrupt, another can be used). Once I find a solution on how to fix the NTFS RAW corruption (return RAW back to NTFS), I can then compare the original drive to backup drive to ensure DMDE has successfully extracted a minimum of 100.00% of the data (can go over this i.e. deleted or 'lost' files). If you're aware of a hex-edit solution, cloning MBR sectors solution or and other ideas to return NTFS to RAW. Please let me know. Appreciate all the help and support.

Seeing as this is an internal SSD inside a external case, did you try connecting the SSD directly via SATA? It is possible that the external casing is faulty, or the cable, or the usb port on the computer.

I've narrowed down the issue to laptops USB-C port or the cable used. Cloning the original corrupted device to another SSD re-creates the issue, so swapping out the hardware of this item shouldn't affect results but I will try none-the-less. Any ideas on a solution to return RAW to NTFS?

Mine is 1 TB and I purchased around that time. However, from testing mine hasn't been affected by this. I am about to (this minute) reconstruct the fail scenario that occurred and attempt to RAW another drive with exact same file structure, data written etc etc. If I can successfully recreate the failed drive. I'll then attempt a repair via cloning sectors of the same drive (before corruption). However, I have absolutely no idea if this will work and the data recovery experts that I have contacted haven't provided me with a solid solution for an 'in-place' fix (as the industry prefers to retrieve data, then destroy original device). Therefore, I'm testing on another drive. Wish me luck.

Not sure if ddrescue or hddsuperclone is more suitable in this case.

It depends on how severe your NTFS filesystem is corrupted.
You can try ntfsfix under Linux, which bunded in ntfs-3g package. It is still highly recommended to operate only on disk mirror images but not original disk to prevent further corruption.

iirc even the trial version of trueimage lets to make an image of a full drive that you then can load in win to work on it,
testdisk is good to recover partitions and the like.
