Sapphire RX 7700 XT no output

Hello!

This is my very first post here, so if anything's missing, I'm sorry!

First, my PC specs:

-RYZEN 5 3600X
-MSI X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI
-32GB DDR4 CORSAIR 3600MHZ
-SAPPHIRE RADEON RX 7700 XT NITRO +
-1Tb STORAGE CORSAIR FORCE MP510
-SEASONIC PRIME ULTRA 750W PLATINUM

About a month ago, my PC begun restarting on it's own (not because of an update) while gaming.
I let it do it's thing, went back into a game, 5 minutes later, same thing, it restarted.
Except this time I got no output on my graphics card, with the Vga light ON on my motherboard.

I have a few components I can swap so I did.

I swapped the Gpu for an old RX 270, aannd no display either...
I then used a GTX 750 (with no power cables needed), and I got a post this time...
I stressed thested the CPU, it didn't crash.

I then swapped my power supply for an almost brand new (slighly weaker) 600W unit with GPU cables, and I still didn't got any output on either of the AMD cards.

I tried my 7700XT in another whole PC, and got a picture, so the cards are not to blame for the lack of display (I guess?).

My PC technician also tried all of the above including swapping PSU, to no avail.

My computer is up to date with drivers. The MB bios is from March 2024 I think, so not old.

I am a bit at a loss at what is wrong with this thing.
It was working just fine for 6 months when I installed the 7700XT and did a DDU.
The only thing I couldn't check were the CPU and MB.

So for a quick summary:

-CPU = Unkown if working
-MB = Unkown if working
-GPU = OK?
-PSU = OK?

I appreciate any help that you could give me!

Thanks alot, from France

Kisato.

Did you try a cmos clear? Did you reseat the memory? Did you try with only one stick of memory installed? Did you swap the remaining stick with another stick?

Oh indeed. Did a CMOS clear, did nothing.
Reseated the memory and used one stick only (tried both individually), did nothing.
And sadly I don't have more DDR4 sticks I can use.

Thank you for the fast reply!

I did, and no change whatsoever.

I guess one thing I could do is update my bios again.

And yes, it's a Corsair Vengeance RGB RS DDR4 2x16gb 3600MHZ kit (I'm not buying overpriced Dominator kits).
Why? Do they tend to fail easily? FYI, I installed this kit about a year ago.

Went through this exact revolving door on my R5 3600 and X570 TUF setup.
RX 580 will display a picture. RX 7900 XT will not. Board's VGA error lamp stuck on.
Was the case with two PowerColor cards and I gave up after the Sapphire.
Approached AMD with this problem, they don't know.
Approached PowerColor with this problem. They don't know.
ASUS Support really tried and offered suggestions like I do a BIOS update. Still no change.
I didn't even bother exchanging dialog with Sapphire, returned their headache.

There doesn't appear to be a solution to this issue. If it ever gets resolved, you'll probably be the first to know.
My suspicion is that it's something with X570 but that's all I've got.

It is very strange for sure. At this point i'm suspecting either the CPU or the mobo, but I would like to not replace both.
I also know that some Ryzen 3000 chips tend to die randomly, but if mine was toasted, it wouldn't boot with the GTX 750 I think.
I did check the event log and found an error saying "Fatal error has occured, processor core, cache hierarchy error WHEA Logger event 18", but i don't think it actually means that much.

Vengeance and AM4 are not peaceful with eachother.

The only cure is RMA the CPU.

I bought Ryzen 5 3600x inside back in 2019 when they were pretty much brand new, so no RMA for this little guy sadly, if it is indeed dead. And if it isn't the culprit, well I could sell it for 50€ or something along the line. I'm swapping it anyways.

Unfortunately that is the only resolve for that specific error that I know actually works. Had help a moderator (and many others) at LTT forums a few years back. He replaced everything except the cpu and board, and when it came down to doing that, he replaced the entire system and gave up throwing money at it.

Other fixes seen in the wild, Turn off (disabled from auto) PBO completely, this would be running base clocks. (this should be direct indication cpu has an issue IMO), other say run a lower memory frequency, raise the V-dimm a little bit, disable power down mode in timings menu and various other performance loss fixes.

Personally skipped the 3000 series at our place, my son went from a 2700X to a 5600X and honestly, it's been super stable for a long time. However he is Using a pretty good board the Asus ROG B450-I, but this shouldnt be a factor for just running a cpu stock honestly.

You may also read that Corsair Vengeance and AM4 doesn't mix, which has some truth. But that's what we are running on the 3000mhz XMP profile and haven't had issues to speak of. The memory was purchased in 2017. The memory is just low performance with low speeds and wide timings. But as long as it's stable, that's what matter most. So luckily, haven't had to diagnose this problem with any of my AM4 rigs. (We've had several). Knock on wood.

OK, thanks for all the infos here. I'm personally not used to messing up with the bios that much, I left most of the stuff on auto, expect for XMP and fans curve.
My first order with all this, will be buying a 5700X3D (the 5800X3D isn't really available here in France, even used), and if it doesn't change anything, I will change my mobo, with a B550, as apparently the X570 chipset has a few issues?
I'm pretty sure my ram is good, will test anyways to be sure. If it is good, i'm keeping it, and staying with AM4 for now.
As long as I have PCI-e 4.0 compatibility, Im all good.

Again, thank you for your time! I appreciate it!

Haven't done the 500 series chipset to speak from personal experience and not a lot of information to share. Cause if I have to get a new board, probably go to AM5 at that point. AMD 9000 series are fast processors, probably worth a platform upgrade frankly speaking.

Christmas is coming. Asking for cash. You could do better than a 5700X3D. 9700X would clobbered it. Ideas, nothing more. Not telling you what to do, just how I'm looking at it given the time of year. ;)

HAHA yeah, it would be nice indeed. But at 27yo, asking for cash fells wrong lol. I don't think it would be reasonable on my part to change my whole platform when my 7700 XT cost me 500€ at the end of last year... Just looking for a more cost effective solution. And, again, it will still be alot better than my 3600X :)

Maybe your mobo isn't providing enough power to the card via the PCI-e slots i.e. the power rail on the board for the PCI-e slots is weak. The GTX 750 draws less power than the R9 270 and the 7700 XT, so you may just need a mobo replacement. I'd try to find someone with an AM4 board you can borrow to test the same config but with a different board.

We don't understand the issue and it took me half a year before giving up.
It's just like the 3080Ti no POST nightmare.
Could be an issue with vBIOS, started flipping switches. Nothing.
Could be an issue with the mobo BIOS and recognizing the card.
Could be some memory hole between the board and card where there's just no handshake.
I've tried all manner of things from reseating CMOS clear, reseating the CPU, pulling all but 1 stick of memory, removing ALL peripherals but the GPU, moving GPU to an x4 slot, removing all NVME storage, setting PCI-E version to 3.x, it doesn't matter. There is no success with this combination. RMA now, try again later.

Good move looking for that CPU upgrade.
Just speaking about my own experience with an X570, I haven't really had any issues with GPUs even after swapping a few through it, and using Vengeance Ram, currently got the 5800X3D CPU and an Intel Arc A750 in it after both Nvidia and AMD cards.
It may have been a driver issue, I use DDU between GPU swaps, even of the same brand.
