So there was some hard sticky crap on my monitor that I had a hard time getting off, so I reached for the closest tool I could find (my screwdriver). Anywho, now I have scratch marks on it now and it looks even worse. How the hell do I fix this crap?

+1 There are some pastes they advertise for phone screens, which you can use to hide scratches. Maybe try with something like wet sandpaper 2000. It will sure hide the scratches, but the spot where they were will still be visible because it will have a different abrasion on the surface, unless you polish the entire surface

Also whatever method you choose, remember to always distribute the pressure over a large surface, so as to no kill your pixels. You're lucky you didn't kill any pixels with that screwdriver.

A screwdriver... :wtf: :slap:

You could have used a soft cloth & water or a mix of 50/50 of water/Isopropyl Alcohol

Anyhow i think your scratch will always shows no matter what you do... unless some one got a miracle solution :ohwell:

Very true. I wetsanded a relatively deep gash on my phone and although the scratch is pretty much gone, when looked under light at the right angle you can see where I had sanded.

A screwdriver...

I thought the same thing too, it sounds like suicide! ;)

Anyways, if you try the above stuff about sanding, be sure not to apply too much pressure, it might mean disaster.

There are ways to reduce scratches, but unfortunately as plastic has been gouged out of the display panel, it will always show.

It's time for that monitor upgrade you were wanting. ;)

I have heard people using Brasso and claim that it works, but I am rather sceptical.

I would try filling the scratch rather than just polishing it out. Try a clear drying gel (maybe hair or sex gel lol) that can fill the scratch and then polish back smooth with a cloth.

but if the refractive index (or something like that) is not the same, then you might only reduce the scratch but not hide it. Safer option though.

Damn, my sig quote sure seems to be appropriate here. WTF were you thinking using a metal object the scrape something off the surface of your LCD? You screwed up your monitor, it can't be 100% fixed. Buy a new one and learn from this experience.

I agree the RF will be difficult to match and I didn't bother checking but it should be better than nothing.

I add to the list beeswax, if only coz if it doesn't work it should be tasty to lick off. It should be easier to apply and polish up though.

Umm you got me curious. How bad is it exactly? Can we get a shot?

Try to shoot it under an angle so that the light hits the scratch and it is more clearly visible.

LOL anyone that uses a screwdriver to remove sticky gunk from a monitor clearly has bigger problems than just a scratched screen

Well it's not as bad as it sounds. He could have used much more terrible things. Like fire and bees or even worse FIREBEES!

LOL maybe a dremel will work better.

seriously, like others have said 70% alcohol and a soft cloth would have gotten it off easy

First, clean the scratch. Second, use a soft rubber pencil eraser and rub it gently. If that doesn't work, you can fill the scratch with things like petroleum (Vaseline) or buff it out with a scratch remover meant for plastics.

I did the eraser trick on a monitor at work and it turned out great. This will not work for a deep gouge though. You will either have to fill it or buff it out, or live with it.

This is your best bet and it does work for light scratches.
Try to find a hard white eraser those work the best.
