That processor comes with an adequate OEM cooler. Do you still have it? Does it work?

Assuming the OEM cooler is not broken, what you need to do is make sure the case is now providing an adequate supply of cool air flowing through the case. Remember, it is the case's responsibility to do that. The CPU fan need only toss the CPU's heat into that air flow. And of course, it is the user's responsibility to properly mount the CPU cooler with a properly applied layer of TIM (thermal interface material), to properly set up case cooling, and to keep the case interior clean of heat-trapping dust.

no have stock fan
Huh? You need to speak more clearly because that does not explain anything. Do you mean you don't have a cooler at all? Or do you mean, no to "OEM" and that you only have a stock cooler?

Understand OEM and stock mean the same thing here.

As seen here and here, that CPU comes with an OEM (stock) heatsink fan (HSF) assembly. If you have that, and it works, you can use that.

If, for some reason, you don't have the OEM (stock) cooler, you need to get another cooler. It does NOT have to be a Wraith Prism. It just needs to be suitable for that processor while fitting inside your case. And again, the case needs to provide a proper flow of cool air flowing through the case.

I think he is just worried about the temps and if he should get a better cooler to help with that?

That would depend on what the price of said Wraith is, isn’t it?

^ Big time.

I wouldn't bother unless it was dirt cheap and you couldn't fit a tower cooler in there.

The wraith Prism is light years better than the Stealth. The fan on the Stealth is nice and I always repurpose those, but the heatsink is trash.

That said, do not buy a Prism for MSRP. AMD wants for $40 or whatever for it new. You can almost always find one for half that on ebay.

Yeah, no way unless it's dirt cheap off eBay or something.
A little over $30 gets you a PA-120 which is light years better.

Possibly but I don't like making assumptions like that when giving technical advice. I would rather have too much information than not enough. And right now, we know next to nothing here.

What do you mean stock cooler, like this one ?
1717440351887.png

The answer is probably no, buy something else with a larger heatsink, wraith prism is fine to use if that's the cooler that came with the CPU but otherwise not worth it over larger after market coolers.

Doesn't the 3600X come with a Spire bundled? That's even worse than the Stealth.

Stealth is the smallest hence the worst.
Is it? My mistake on that then, I thought Spire was the smallest.
My question stands, though: afaik the 3600X comes with a Spire.

Yes if $10. No if more than $10.

$20-25 is fair if it's clean.

$10 for used isn't worth it to ship.

The problem is if it's dirty they are a bitch to clean because the damn fan part is hard asf to remove. They are really good air coolers, but that's my gripe after having installed a bunch of them into builds. People love them because of the cool mirage pattern.

People that hate on the Prism probably haven't used one. They are one of the better down flow coolers, with plenty of heat pipes and good fins. They have high/low switch for fan speed besides pwm, and two ways to run the color LEDs (usb is the best with cooler master software).

I have a vanilla 3600 that gets a static overclock pinned just under its max rated boost clock. It originally shipped with the Stealth which...

Yeah no.

I have leftovers from the FX, which had a proper air cooler found as: Wraith Prism. I recall two versions of it and the RGB model is the more expensive of them.

1717454136338.png

No idea why. It works great as intended here but is really meant to keep a 125W+ part under control. It was issued to my FX-8370BE which can climb well above its rated speeds and power budget. In the rack I keep it pinned at 4.4GHz and run a smaller Coolermaster Wraith that was issued to my Phenom II X4 955BE. It's the same power budget but had lower clocks and temps which are not suitable for benchmarks or any CPU jobs that pin 100% for extended periods but it does a good enough job keeping a mostly idling CPU under control that I allow it. Oddly enough this fits a 2U:

1717454858194.png

The comparison between them is pretty wild. Literally another case of you vs the guy she tells you not to worry about...

1717455357232.png

Since the part was issued 15 years ago and most of these ran 40-80% at all times you would normally expect a lot of noise from it. Mine also didn't agree with my ears so I opted for a cute thin AliExpress replacement that incidentally looks exactly like this:

1717455085917.png

Worth it? It's intended for AM2/AM3 era CPUs and while I'm sure it will also fit AM4, I wouldn't want to run this on a Ryzen chip. So that's a hard pass at any price.

All of these air coolers are engineered to solve somewhat specific CPU problems. The big chonker Wraith Prism is the only one I would trust to wipe the entire CPU list, easily tackling overclocking on something like a 5900X/XT.

It's about as good as my Pentium 4 cooler.
1717456671430.png

1717456808796.png

So given the options, overclocking is a huge part of the equation. I can still bump 85℃ on this setup but it takes an extended load benchmark like Cinebench or Superposition. What are you trying to do on a 3600X?

a tower, yes, but not comparable down drafter
Gents.

I use the Prism on a 14700K and it'll do 5.6ghz and spike that 100c temp.

A very capable cooler for sure.

If anyone wants to get rid of Wraith coolers, find my PM/DM box. I'll take them :)

Depends on the price. For something like 20EUR/USD it's okay, but I wouldn't pay any more. Could be an useful spare cooler at least.
