So when did AMD hire coolermaster to make their stock coolers?

So I just went to my mates place to double check if his motherboard was dead, and well it is and I noticed that his stock cooler was of the brand coolermaster, and I thought how odd, that's the first time ive seen them do AMD's stock heat pipe coolers before. All the other ones Ive had before them (well the last few yrs anyway) have been made by the brand AVC and to be honest there kinda crappy, loud and don't cool very good to be honest.

So has anyone got any idea when this happened? and if the coolermaster one is better? im going to test it out later just to see for myself.

AVC cooler came with my 8350 (8-9Months old)
coolermaster one came from my mates 8320 (week old)

Didn't it just coincide with Bulldozer's release? Or was it Piledriver? LOL

At the least, since 2005. That cooler came with my Opteron 165 and 170.

They had Cooler Master as the provider.

A friend of mine also got one a long time say around 1.5 years back. Foxconn is also at play. I originally got the AVC cooler that you have too. But it was faulty after 1 year and so AMD gave me a new one and it is from Foxconn. And is the best from the lot you will see why.

Look at the height.

The base: I slightly lapped it.

The fan is extremely silent and good.

Realy? Ive had a lot of AMD systems go through me in that space of time and this si the first ive ever seen :ohwell:

I didn't look close enough at your pictures. Mine most likely were AVC.

Yea thats the same as the coolermaster one right? it does seem to be alot better hey?

Yeah the fan is same as the cooler master one. But the heatsink is better. It is taller and the copper base is thicker and has got more aluminium fins.

If I can, I will take photos related to the thickness of the base and post it here.

And it cools the CPU very good. You can guess that from the overclock stated on my system specs.

Yea I find that fan alot better then the AVC one to, quieter for sure but one thing the AVC has over that one is it is a ball bearing fan.

and yes it must cool a lot better if you can clock your CPU that high and still run cool enough.

Ima test it on my stock 965 and see what happens, as i think its slightly different again. Still the best one ive ever had is the one thats on my old FX-57, its great.

I have a coolermaster that came with my opty cabge 144 socket 939

The old 939 stock heatsinks were very nice compared to some of the crap intel and amd include now.

Well I just tested the AVC cooler against the coolermaster cooler and the results are the temps are about the same, both sitting around 57c flat out. One big difference is the fan noise on the coolermaster cooler is way way more quieter and also spins faster at 6000RPM, so yes overall its the better cooler out of the two.

True.

The AVC one I had went above 7000 RPM. I still have that fan and it is noisy as hell.

My FX-6100 came with the cooler master brand with 2 heat pipes and the highest I've seen it go was around 3200 rpm. I bought my CPU in December 2012.
