Some Weird PC Problem

Good Day Everyone. I trust this day finds you well.

Now I gave my Ryzen to my brother as I am a Web Dev + IT so the Ryzen was way to big for me for now. So I got myself an I5 3340 with an RX470 for if I convent Currency 25 usd.

The Specis are
CPU: I5 3340
Mobo: Asrock z68 Pro3 Gen3
Ram 24GB 1600 (OC'd to 2133)
GPU: AMD Sapphire RX470 Platinum Edition.

The PC runs like a dream for what I use her for but when I switch off my PC and switch it on The PC works but when I for example have a power failure(Which happens a lot in South Africa) or I change a part which I have to test pc Parts, my PC will not switch on. After about 30 minutes of pressing the power button it will switch back on. So I Thought it is The PSU and it works fine. Tested everything including removing the GPU and run on the IGPU.

Now for some reason, my mobo unlocked my cpu's multiplier so I did clock it a little higher frequency and Intel says only K series can OC to 2133mhz. Mine run at that speed. So I de clocked everything with the same results. The only thing that I can think off at this point is something wrong with the power delivery on the motherboard. I have fixed a lot of pc's in my life but I never had a problem like this. I had pc's that struggle to switch on but not like this because after pressing my power button x amount of times it will eventually switch on. Unfortunately I cannot test the mobo as I am a little tight on cash at the moment and I work 14-15h a day so no time as well. I did test the CPU and it worked fine. Could the mobo be the cause of this?

Kind Regards: Pierré

Unstable Ram is probably the cause, reset it to default and see if that helps.

The age of the hardware would be a definite concern in my mind. That's a platform that is a dozen years old, and I think 2,000 MHz+ RAM speeds for that platform/time would have been pretty ambitious, let alone now as it has aged so wear and tear will be questions to ask.

I agree with the above that the first step would be to set it back to stock/default speeds. That's troubleshooting 101.

If that doesn't help, my other thought would be that the motherboard is just showing its age.

My own experience tells me the power supply you are using might not be all that great.

::EDIT::

Or be all in that great of health for that matter.

A friends machine used to do something similar a long while back. He'd start it up and it would run perfectly fine while it was up but the moment he shut it down it wouldnt power on again for another 30-60mins.

Swap to a reputable power supply, change your cmos battery, make sure nothing in the case is shorting on the motherboard from the edges or backside and GET A UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWERSUPPLY and if you can a Generator, maybe solar cells?

Also swap the reset switch for the power switch.

It's either the power supply, or the motherboard, imo. Try to get some replacement units and have a play.

Huh? Other than initial purchase costs, there really is no such thing as "way too big" for a CPU. That said, "giving" it to your brother was a nice and generous jester. :)

a power failure(Which happens a lot in South Africa)
You don't mention what PSU you have, but I agree to swap in a known good supply from a reputable maker to see what happens. If nothing else, this will eliminate your current PSU from the troubleshooting equation.

I am a proponent for EVERY computer to be supported by a "good" UPS with AVR - but this is especially true for regions with unstable power grids, as you suggest you have. I recommend you budget for one and get it ASAP.

Change the CMOS battery. At the age of the system, it could be going bad. I had an old ASUS sabertooth P67 that would have issues turning on until I replaced the CMOS battery.

That sound like one of those buggy ASUS protection features.

PSU or motherboard, in that order.

Cheaper than a PSU, worth a shot for sure
