I got an old 5.1 analogic audio system(doesn't have an optical input) hookup to my PC.
I was wondering if there's a way to send the sound to my TV ( still 5.1, but digital via HDMI) and then hookup the TV via optical to a DAC that has 5.1 analog output to the sound system.
the goal is to get get 5.1(or pseudo 5.1 when it's not outputed by the TV e.g some tv channeles are only stereo) when I'm using the TV and also when I'm using the PC, but in a seamless method.
I know there are great recievers that can do this, but I'm looking in failry cheap solutions to achieve this. recievers cost to much for this purpose and I'd rather get a new sound system than overcomplicate this project.

This sounds overly complicated.

Can you use MS paint and draw out a diagram of what you are trying to do? I think it will help others who are reading your post as well

Going to link a discontinued product (of which there are more legacy models) you can chase up the scale to their current offering. Do your own research but this is about it for options.

i would avoid anything that limits the bandwidth of my HDMI (2.1) ... so hdmi-ing into another gadget than out from that to the tv's hdmi is a no go

it's very simple, sound from PC to TV via hdmi -> sound from TV to analog audio (via unknown method).
the final sound should always come out from the analog audio even whe using the TV alone or using the TV as a monitor and sound passtrough.

I don't see why this wouldn't work, if you can get optical out from your TV, you can hook that up to whatever you want.
However, HDMI and TV firmware are quirky. For example, my old Samsung TV would not output anything other than stereo, unless it came from DTV. Hook the laptop via HDMI, send 5.1 to the TV, TV outputs 2.0. As long as you can try it for cheap, go for it. If it works, you got a winner. If it doesn't, you can pretend they're sour.
