Bought old Surface Pro 4 with i5 6300u
But cannot change FIVR CPU VOLTAGE to lower power (tag not activated)
Can I change in settings or is it blocked by Intel (or use another tool)?

How to reduce power and avoid problems with display flickering?
Apparently some folks could solve this issue with ubdervolt CPU.

Maybe with Speed EPP?
Thanks for advices.

Post a screenshot of the FIVR window. Does it say Locked? That means the BIOS has locked out CPU voltage control. Not sure if this can be unlocked on a Surface Pro 4. Once the BIOS locks this, ThrottleStop cannot unlock it.

You can lower the Speed Shift Max value in the TPL window if you want to slow your CPU down. This will create less heat. Not sure how to fix your display flickering problem.

Hi, I ran into this same issue above as mentioned by Serros. Can anyone help? You are saying to go into TPL window to tick the speed shift and lower the max value? default is 30. I have lowered to 20. Any comment would be much appreciated. Thank you.

@jackbeta28

What are you trying to do? Post some pictures so I do not have to guess. Include the FIVR and TPL windows.

ok,
I have a old Surface Pro 4 with i5 6300u trying to undervolt it to hsve less heat as i have just recently replaced a new Surface pro 5 LCD. I have installed Throttlestop ver 9.5 but I cannot change FIVR CPU VOLTAGE to lower power as i can't checked the box to change the values. Next I did was as per you comment above to change the speed shift. Am i doing it correctly? Attached pics for your reference. thanks

The FIVR window shows the word Locked.

Setting Speed Shift Max to 20 should limit your maximum CPU speed. Run something simple like a TS Bench 1 Thread test. What speed do you get?

I am not sure how ThrottleStop interacts with Windows 11 if you are running it on an older unsupported platform. It should be OK.

hi, thanks for the prompt reply. So there is no way to unlock it? Bench test as attached.

The only way to unlock CPU voltage control is to modify a couple of UEFI variables in the BIOS. This is somewhat complicated and you risk turning your laptop into a brick if something goes wrong. Here is the procedure for many Dell computers. I have not idea if this is possible on your computer.

1 thread test
I need to see the speed your computer is running at while the TS Bench test is in progress. Showing me a screenshot after the test has finished does not show me the speed your computer is running at when it is loaded. If the FID in the monitoring table is being limited to 20 then the Speed Shift Max setting is working correctly.
