Currently using Edge here.

Was on Firefox for a bit, but that doesn't play nice with Sling TV, and Edge still works with adblockers on YT (for now).
Edge also lets you use an adblocker on mobile (as does Firefox) where Chrome will not.

I dropped Chrome too, Google can get bent w the direction they're trying to go.

Well, if you are vehemently against using any Chromium-based browser then you straight up have only Firefox as an option. Well that, or moving to MacOS and use Safari. It’s a sad state of affairs all around.

I don't want to be but as you said limited options
and before somebody chimes in about how Manifest V3 isn't that bad. it IS. it offers nothing for security and is just google trying for more control and they have enough of that as it is

I'm using Opera Gx and Brave. I might be getting hacked so who knows.

The cap on resources (ram/cpu) on Opera is nice, plus it's got a few tweaks in it I like, like running whatsapp, twitch integration (I stream), and it runs chrome extensions generally without hassle.

Opera and Edge for me. Regular Opera, not GX. Their backup system sucks though. After fresh install log in with my opera profile....no transfer of data. They really need to sort this out. Edge on the other hand has been very stable for me. I also use it instead of a PDF reader since they made a deal with Adobe for integration.

Edge is my primary. Yes, it too is Chromium based but it is not a Chrome clone - a good thing. It offers "slightly" better security and privacy features over Chrome with Edge's SmartScreen "edging" out Chrome's Google Safe browsing. Google, however, is much quicker at releasing security updates for Chrome. Chrome gets updates every couple days (sometimes more than once a day). Edge security updates every one to two weeks - with the very rare out-of-cycle critical update in between. That said, since none of my systems using Edge have been compromised, maybe every one or two weeks is enough?!?!

IDK. Knock on wooden forehead.

For years, Pale Moon (a "fork" of FF) was my primary until I started having problems with it crashing or failing to render sites properly. Then it became my secondary after Edge. But the problems continued so I stopped using PM completely.

These days, In the rare event I cannot access a site with Edge, I will try with FF to see if the problem is with the site being down, or if the problem was Edge not being able to access it for whatever reason. However, I cannot remember the last time I couldn't access a site with Edge but could with FF - it has been a long time. So it seems the rest of the world has finally accepted the fact that Edge is not IE.

Regardless the browser I use, I stay very diligent and disciplined at all times and, in addition to keeping my OS and security current, I avoid being "click-happy" on unsolicited and/or suspicious links.

Have not tested the others but it's Edge all the way for me.

As a side note, I just this very moment after all this time just now discover a feature on Youtube. Did any of you know that if you hover the mouse pointer over the volume slider on Youtube you can change the volume with the mouse wheel. I never knew this until a few seconds ago.

Yeah, most times Firefox makes a UI decision it is a facepalm for me.

I like Chrome as it is now. But content blocking is very important to me. If they damage it too much next year I'll... Well. I dunno. I suppose I have to swallow the Firefox pill.

I am using Firefox. I hardened it to the point it was basically as slow as routing through an onion network and removed any purpose of using it for practical use.
This was on top of using Portmaster to block every incoming and outgoing connections from anything I connect to as I see fit from the likes of Google, Microsoft.. everything even the telemetry that is dug deep within Windows 11 it was all blocked.

It helped slightly with network latency stability actually, but browsing the web was excruciatingly painful. A lot of domains you thought were clear of Google et el are in fact... tied to it.. nothing loads and gives a connection error.

I have no use for such tight security.

I followed this channel.

I will remain a Firefox user as it's flexibility is second to none, but as an out-of-the-box experience, for many it would be easier to use a fork or a browser dedicated to security if that is your thing.

I prefer FireFox - since it's the most modular browser: comes with hundreds of tweak-able settings (in about:config or by editing some local files) + i can remove almost anything i don't like about it (Chromium based browsers are highly limited in this regard) & add stuff i do like (this part being common for every modem browser - with the help of extensions).

But hey... "Browsers are FREE!" It's not like i have to pay for it and fell compelled to chose just one (1). That being said, after testing everything i could find (for past 20 years or so... started this journey back when Opera was a popular alternative to Netscape and IE) - beyond FF which became my main choice (for reasons mentioned above), well... i don't really see the point in wasting my time - testing other browsers (not anymore). I mean, Windows already comes with a Chromium based browser - just in case - some site is rigged to screw with FF. Also have Chromium (the core project) - as a portable option, tho - it's been quite a long time since i felt compelled to use it - while running into some issue (wasn't updated/used since 02/03/2023).

Truthfully, if I didn't have two important (to me) financial institutions that refused to give me access with IE, I would have kept using it for much longer than I did.

And if Netscape was still around, I might still be using that too. But once my company way back in 2004 pried Netscape out of my hands (out of threat of termination) and forced us all to use IE, and once I got used to IE, it became my preferred browser at work and at home.

I never fell for all the hype about IE's security, or supposed lack thereof so I kept using it long after FF came out. And after Edge too. And I never got infected either.

But I did notice after Microsoft released Edge (the second iteration of it) I started having other issues with IE. Can't prove it, but I do suspect (and assume) Microsoft intentionally introduced small performance issues into IE so users would stop using it and move to Edge so they could stop supporting IE.

My experiences with Netscape, IE, Edge and Pale Moon is what prompted me to post my "fill in the blank" post above. My point is, in most cases, it simply boils down to "whatever you are used to" or "most familiar with" for which browser becomes users preferred browser of choice.

I suspect if I had used FF long enough for it's features to become 2nd nature, it would have then become my preferred.

No one browser is best at everything, or worst at everything either.
