Thieves have stolen an undisclosed amount of RTX 30-series graphics cards, EVGA reports in a blog post. EVGA warns customers that buying and/or selling stolen cards is illegal.
It is not clear how the perpetrators got to the GPUs and how big the 'load of EVGA GeForce RTX 30 GPUs' was.
EVGA says that the cards have a suggested retail price of between 330 and 1960 USD.

They stole a full truck, crazy. It must have been an inside job to know what was in the truck.

Anyway, the call for people to avoid purchasing them is just absurd, how are people going to know when buying on ebay or related sites if it's stolen or not. Should they not buy any used or scalped EVGA card now?

Yes that entire blog post is an exercise in futility. I mean, if I buy a used card and I find out I cannot register, should I expect the cops at my door?
Though it does raise the point that we're used to buying second hand without asking for proof of purchase.

A quick google search and it's clear it is only a crime if you knew or had reasons to suspect it was stolen.

And that would be possible how? Almost no one keeps "proof of purchase" beyond 6 months anyway.

Well, if EVGA were evil, they could now claim you had reasons to suspect it was stolen, because they informed the whole world in the post above.
But like I said, an exercise in futility otherwise.

You could just ask the seller to show you the serial number and ask EVGA if that particular card has been reported as stolen. I've actually done that successfully in the past. They were very cool about it.

The EVGA post states the serial numbers are known, so if you try to register, it should hit up as a stolen card.

Not sure what happens after that, though I know in the UK, if you buy a stolen car (or other items, I guess) they can be taken from you without compensation.

I'm sure eBay and the other fleece markets have to take the hit for that.

I just keep mine in the box it came in if I bought it from a B+M. And once it is registered it’s yours, no need for PoP unless for resale. I have a receipt for an old GTX 970 FTW and you can barely make out the info because of biodegradable ink?

But yeah in the U.K. the law is not on your side if you bought something stolen. I saw that on Coronation street when I was a kid *shudders*

:D
