I am thinking about building a new office computer. My Xeon W3680 build has been having increasing problems I attribute to my P6X58DE being ancient and my i5 8600K Z370 Taichi computer keeps bootlooping.
Microcenter has the i7 12700K open box routinely for $169. My question is should I go for that or buy something else. I haven't seen to many good deals on Ryzen 7700X/9700X. Occasionally it looks like the open box models are $185.
Uses are general windows stuff and prototyping some machine learning / neural network python code in a Linux environment. The ML stuff doesn't need to be a priority beyond just being able to do it, I plan to run it remotely on a more powerful computer. It needs to be somewhat powerful, so something around the power of an i7 would be fine.
I have an RTX 3060 and 3200C14 DDR4 I can put into it, or possibly go to DDR5.
The system will not and probably will never be used for gaming.
