Hello,

As my title says, I cannot get Java installed. I really dont want it , but it IS required for Minecraft to run apparently, Even though they have phased it out. I can run the MC launcher, it connects to the internet, and looks like its gonna launch, bu then Nothing. No error message from MC, nothing just sits there.

The only thing i can find that is out of whack on my own is Java. I cant find it on the PC , i.e programs, etc. I have tried using ninite.com to install it, ive tried torrented versions(although I own the game) Its killing me that i cant get it running, because My kid needs to use My PC to run it :(
Ive googled the shit out of this issue, and after 3 weeks of no solution i am posting it here. i looked but could find NO other thread already in existence on this matter.

if anyone knows of a solution please let me know.

Problem PC is...
Win 7 64b
HD7870ghz
8Gb Crucial mem
Samsung 850evo 250Gb
MSE/ and no other security (malwarebyte being added since i thought it already was)

anything else needed im glad to answer.

If you haven't already, uninstall all versions of Java on the machine and install this one from an administrator account:
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=113219

The non-Java version is only available on Windows 10 (free upgrade available for another 6 months or so) via the Windows Store (you can tie an existing Minecraft account to a Microsoft account which will register the free copy of Minecraft). I don't know if their multiplayer is cross-compatible. I also don't know how fleshed out the Windows version is from the Java version.

What does the console in the launcher say? Also check any logs found here C:\Users\*Your Profile*\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\logs

Just some info, PC minecraft still uses Java, and will for the foreseeable future. The Windows 10 version is run on C++ (runs much better) and acts more like the mobile version. It was actually built off the same base. Very feature incomplete as of a couple weeks back.

Also, always use 64-bit.

^ Download that, run as administrator, does all the heavy lifting for you.
See OP "I have tried using ninite.com to install it,"

ill try the other javas , but im pretty sure i did use the 64b ver.

Also, ill try to get the console report/.
i did my best to capture the "report" from the launcher.
also, i just got pissed off and deleted the regestry entries for Java..i hope im not boned on that..i kow the system works fine, but i mean java wise.
also, i DID run it in the latest version of Minecrft, and the results were Same, its just set to the older one in these Screen caps. but same results with most recent release.

I can see some issues with the Java launching or running in the log here, but i dont know what the hell they mean
Also, even though java is creating install folders on the c drive of that PC, it isnt showing up in "installed programs" or as installed anywher

This is a known issue, and we are still investigating the root cause. Meanwhile you can try the following to install Java.

Option 1: Restart your system and uninstall old versions

Option 2: Disable Java content through the Java Control Panel
In the Minecraft error, it shows that Java is installed to the local user account; this occurs when the installer is not ran as administrator. I'd recommend following the uninstallation directions in the link in the quote. Next, make sure to remove all references to Java from the system environmental variables (System Properties -> Advanced -> Environmental Variables). Now restart the computer. Finally, run the 64-bit Java 8 installer again. It should automatically point to C:\Program Files\Java; if it does not, setup isn't running as administrator. If this is the case, log off of the current user, log in to the local administrator account on the computer and run the setup again. If setup still fails at this stage, I'm afraid it's FUBAR and you'll have to wait until Oracle fixes it.

Focus on Java. Minecraft will never work if Java doesn't install properly. Minecraft is a symptom; Java is the disease.

Also, even though java is creating install folders on the c drive of that PC, it isnt showing up in "installed programs" or as installed anywhere.

If it isn't listed under "Programs and Features", that means Java isn't installed on the PC.

1. Download JavaRa. Run the program and tell it to remove JRE.

2. Go to Oracle's page and download the Java SE Runtime Environment 8u66 for Windows x64.

3. Right-click on the EXE and select "Run as administrator".

If it still fails, try the instructions on this page:

Why do I get "Errorcode 1603" and Java installation did not finish msg?

So apparently it has something to do with Java and web browsers. If Oracle weren't so daft, they'd just abandon Java browser support...because HTML5. Microsoft is abandoning Silverlight and Adobe is abandoning Flash.

If I were you, I'd upgrade to Windows 10 (for registering the upgrade) then do a clean Windows 10 install so all traces of Java are wiped out.

See OP "I have tried using ninite.com to install it,"
I feel like a complete jackass right now. Let me try to fix that feeling:

https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/uninstaller_toolinfo.xml

https://java.com/en/download/help/manual_regedit.xml

Try these and reinstall. The installation seems to be failing because some corruption remains from a previous install. If it is indeed an option, a reinstall of the OS would be pretty high on my list as well.

Edit: clarification

I thought Minecraft included some sort of Java already. Or that it downloads it automatically on first play if not available.

. Go to Oracle's page and download the Java SE Runtime Environment 8u66 for Windows x64.

The only thing I would suggest to change in your advice is to download the full 16 or so MB installer. I have the best luck with that.

Their website is confusing, but with perseverance you can find both full versions. I'm on my phone now, otherwise I'd get the actual location for you, which I have bookmarked.

Another area to look at is if your AV or firewall is blocking it if that still doesn't work.

Edit: Well hell, that will teach me to respond without reading the rest of the posts! LOL, disregard.

for old school minecrafters that love mods, the new version is poop but I hope they allow modding and the mods can be ported some way over. Also I think ford was right in saying that MC launcher was looking for java in your user folder when it should have been looking for it in program files.

Mods won't be ported because they're JVM. They'd have to be recreated anew and that's assuming the Windows Store version even has infrastructure to support mods.

Ideally, both versions should be working.
