Undervolting 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13650HX ROG Strix G16

Anybody who has a same laptop as mine? I recently got an ROG Strix G16 (2023) with an 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13650HX 2.60 GHz processor. I tried lowering CPU Core, P Cache and E Cache, but didn't really notice any difference in temperature. Still reaching 90c. I only managed to lower temps by lowering the Turbo Ratio of the P Cores. But lowering them also lowers the power of my CPU right? Maybe I'm missing something or need to do something else, I'm not sure. I also tried adjusting my Turbo Power Limits to 45w but same results. Thanks in advance.

High temperatures after lowering both the turbo power limits and all of the turbo ratios is telling me that you have a cooling issue. I would try cleaning out your laptop and replace the thermal paste with Honeywell PTM 7950. This is critical. Do not use whatever thermal paste the local store has a good deal on.

I do not own a ROG Strix laptop but I have to believe that the cooling system should be able to cool a 13650HX without having to reduce the power limits to 40W.

Replace the thermal paste yourself so you do not have to wonder if this was done correctly or not. Watch some YouTube videos if you need help.

Your undervolt settings are working correctly but there is only so much an undervolt can do.

Now I'm currently testing thru Cinebench to see on how much I can put on my TPL and Turbo Ratios without thermal throttling happening. These are currently the setting I'm on. If I even increase my P cores by 1, it would then start to thermal throttle.

About the cooling, I'm not sure if that would be the problem because I just had this unit this month. But it's possible.

The 13650HX has a 55W base power rating and a 157W turbo power rating. The maximum turbo frequency is supposed to be 4.90 GHz. Your cooling in its present state is nowhere near good enough to allow your CPU to run like it should. Either Asus really failed when they chose a heatsink for your laptop model or else it was not properly installed.

Sadly, thermal paste application on the assembly line can be a real mess. Some assembly line workers apply thermal paste like a child using their first tube of tooth paste.

If this is a new laptop and you try to return it, they will likely tell you that everything is OK. Like many new laptops, it is not OK. You need to complain or you need to fix the cooling problem.
