Upgrading my reciever. Need help

Currently i use Yamaha RX-v463, which is quite old 5.1 and DTS and DD support only.
Im planning on getting used AVR-X1600H, that seems to support all the modern codecs like Atmos, ThueHD etc.
What i get on my plex installation is understandable, i just forward new formats directly w/o encoding and get the sound as is should be.

Now form PC, im currently using this method (DTS:X APO4 + DTS Interactive for Most Devices [USB Supported] | TechPowerUp Forums) to get DTS Interactive on S/PDIF output.
The question is - is there any possibility i can get Dolby Atmos the same way on S/PDIF, showing me all channels, or its impossible, and i should consider another approach, like connecting this new reciever to PC over HDMI Passthrough?

Thanks, and I hope someone had the simular experience here.

or its impossible, and i should consider another approach,

Pretty much this.

Its impossible because S/PDIF cant carry near enough bandwidth/data for all the modern codecs. The only way is via HDMi
