I'm going to make a prediction: no. If it took 70 to 75 years to turn theory into reality, it indicates complexity. Secondly, it takes energy, and it is hard to compete with a simple air cooler when it comes to efficiency and performance for the price.

Your right emi from the magnets, that would be an issue and shielding it might negate the cooling. I love science... :toast:

Could we use lasers and magnets to cool CPU's?
I say, "no".

For one, lasers require tremendous amounts of energy and creating energy typically creates a lot of heat too. So it would not be a good/efficient trade.

For another, when it comes to electrons moving in a conductor (or processor), there is such a thing as "too cold". Did you watch that video? Did you notice what happened to the atoms as they reached that super cold temp? They stopped moving. In electronics, you need the electrons to keep moving as fast as possible; the speed-of-light would be good.

So could you cool a CPU this way? Yes. But it would stop working.

My 14700K stops working somewhere around -65c to -70c. DryIce.

Using LN2, getting a KingPin Inferno cpu heater helps regulate sub zero temps to help prevent the cpu from stop working.

Simple answer is no, the type of cooling tech used to get a gas this cold is going to be rather exotic and needs an environment controlled far more strictly than someone's dust-filled bedroom or even a datacenter, as wild as that sounds. You would have a better time using something already established and designed to work in typical environments... like a heat pump. That one's already used, you ever see an industrial chiller hooked up to a water cooling circuit? Heat pump.

Now, something like this to get quantum computers to temp, sure. I can see that happening. Quantum computing labs are already pretty much lab conditions anyways—hence the name.
