I am watching the video review of the AMD 9700x's power draw, I am very impressed. Its the same performance of the 9700x but less power draw. This is a laptop processor, I really want to see it overclocked.

Yeah, pretty much the same everyone else says. Not really worth 100 bucks more than a 7700X to "upgrade".

Release prices are always high. Bet they'll drop after 30 days after release. That's what happens when no one upgrades, there's just not enough performance uplift.

And this is a review sample. I want to say that after some bios updates we should see better efficiency and hopefully better performance accompanying that. Only time will tell!

This chip will make sense when it's priced near what they are asking for the 7600X.

AMD is lucky 13/14th gen are having issues or else these chips would be a total flop..... Although they might have issues with the outgoing 7000 series being a way better value.

AMD has been spanking on Intel's efficiency since 2nd Gen. Let's not say faster or slower, I'm not trying to compare that.

But efficiency is all AMD needs to keep up with really in my opinion. It's not that they run up to 90c/95c and say they run cool at load. But the work done at 165w is pretty impressive.

More cores would be nice though. I seen someone mention that in another thread and I agree. 4 extra cores for 100$ more might actually sell better.

I'd be ok with 95c at 65w than 95c at 240w.

Maybe and Lucky for AMD intel is in a kinda weird spot right now....... I still was hoping for more than this after 2 years.... If that is unrealistic so be it.

I'd be ok with 95c at 65w than 95c at 240w.

Same it's why I like the X3D chips they do a lot with a little..... usually around 60-70w in gaming with my 7950X3D

My cap on what I think is ok for a cpu to use at full load is 140 watts any cpu I purchase is going to be set to 140w if it already consumes that out of the box awesome for me. That is just me though.

Lol. For sure. Pretty much how my kid runs his AM4 gear. My daughter is still using a Ryzen 1400. She doesn't complain. RTX 2060 1080P, plays Skrym just fine. (That's what she likes) and it carried her right through high-school. (Just graduated). This runs like 70c lol. (Wraith Prism on everything :) )

I aim for 70c on my bench table when possible. Doesn't matter what's plugged in.

AMD uses 70c as High temp alert. At least early Ryzen white papers say that. Newest aren't released yet. The user in the bios can manually set the fan profile only up to 75c. (At least on my AM4 gear, not certain if this is changed on AM5)

So at 70c, with a total default, clear cmos setup; the cpu cooler fan will be commanded 100% duty cycle to try and help prevent escalated temps on long durations. It doesn't know you're running a 3 minute CB test.

I'm not worried about it.

And I use DryIce. Crazy higher voltages than most everyone. I break hardware. Processors, I've killed more delidding than actually brute force OC.

If I've clocked 150 different cpus, you can bet at least 25% have been LN2. 50% DryIce, the other 50% misc cooling otherwise.

Processors have been very difficult to break.

I didn't break my 2700X, delidded and TEC cooled 4ghz at 1.198v. Ran for a while under air and later sold at this very forum.... in working condition.

Love AMD. Always have. My fastest OC was 7685mhz LN2 with FX-8300 on a 48$ motherboard everyone at OCN said couldn't produce 2.0v or more. We'll, I figured out how to do it haha.

Anyways, Fk Intel. I'm simply non bias 100%. I love both AMD and Intel. I've always had AMD for my personal rig. My carry lappy is AMD 7350U with radeon 7 graphics. :)

It'd be impressive if they ever created a chip that hit 95c at 65w.
Cooling also matters. Ambient temperature and PC case geometry, too. You can also overheat your CPU due to your GPU being a freaking 4090 that's feeding your CPU with intense heat. Not to mention that the smaller the die the harder it is to cool it.
