Yeah thats a not too bad price.

UK its prime day discounted Amazon UK. Down from £291 to £227. Not as good as USA but still a good discount.

German Amazon has it at 256.40€. Not bad at all.

Also the 2 TB version, and a great selection of other top SSDs too (Samsung, Kingston [no more, I bought the last KC3000 2TB], Corsair).

Looks like one of the best 4TB you can buy under $300
Well, sorry, but don't worry about trying to get any, cause I had my AI-buyer-bot thingy buy them all, everywhere, all at once, at 12:01am this morning......

/s

Seriously though, I did buy 16 of them for upcoming client builds, like I did in Dec 23 when they were even less.... #WD4Me4Eva#

That's like carrying all eggs in one basket. Meanwhile, corporations are learning lessons from HP and AMD, and all SN850X's will stop working everywhere, all at once, at 4:04am, on one starry night when you're in Florida on vacation (or, if that's where you live, replace Florida with Hawaii).

Well, I keep all my eggs in an organizer tray in da fridge, so it's all good :)

But seriously, I have standardized all client builds with only WD drives for many years now, that way if any issues or questions arise, I instantly know how to troubleshoot/resolve them...however, in the past 8 years, I have had EXACTLY 2 situations where I needed to have a 3-5 min call with my clients about their drives, neveranottaproblemo !

The WD BLACK SN850X NVMe M.2 2280 4TB PCI-Express 4.0 I can find in my country at the listed prices all come with no heatsink.
The 1TB I currently use does have a heatsink. I have no idea how hot the SN850X gets with heavy use.

In my personal mini-me box (a confined space with only a graphene strip), I thrash on my 4TB for 6 hrs/day doing spreadsheets, browsing, email, imaging, video, and some light database work, and the highest I've ever seen it get is 53C

On my work lappy, same conditions as above, I do CAD/3D, photoshop, PDF, Illustrator, database and spreadsheets for 8-10 hrs/day, and it only gets to about 60C, every now & again 65C....

In my recent client builds, all ATX desktops with multiple drives and considerable airflow throughout the cases, and the same or heavier workload than my lappy, I rarely see them getting over 45-48C....

SO.... unless you do stuff that is heavier than the above or your case has limited airflow, then you may wanna consider a heatsink or other cooling apparatus, otherwise a thermal strip should suffice for MOST people but YMMV :D

not hot at all, the hottest I've ever seen mine go upto was 60C, that was with a integrated motherboard heatspreader though

If you have experience with the old SN850 too, how does it compare to the SN850X? I'm asking because our good W1zzard has reviewed very many SSDs, and the SN850 is one of them, but the SN850X unfortunately isn't, although it could be a great point of reference.

I've had both, as well as most of the previous versions and have had exactly zero issues with any of them....always fast, reliable and long lasting....I have a couple of really old 256-512GB's that are still in service today as back-up/storage drives...

However, I did have a single instance of a borked update to their dashboard app a few years ago (probably a corrupted download) but a quick delete, reboot & reinstall fixed that nottaproblemo :)
