So today, I grabbed up a 160GB WD hard drive on Craigslist. Now, I for some reason, Windows isn't showing it, yet Windows 7 installed drivers for it successfully?

Anyone know what might be wrong?

I have occasional issues under 7 if the drive is unformatted. Go into Partition Manager, see if it shows up there. If so, format/partition it there.

Yup, shows up under hard drive section in BIOS. I'm very confused right now. I pretty dang sure it works, as the guy said he formatted it today and checked for errors.

It doesn't show up even in Device Manager? Or is there a yellow triangle that may be it?

Nope, not showing up under device manager. only my other two hard drives are. Hmmm....

Edit- I'm going to try clearing my CMOS.

try removing and reinstalling the drive again.

One thing I did notice is that it keeps setting itself as the boot up drive, when I unplugged it, and when I cleared my CMOS. It just now failed to install the drivers, saying that it's unplugged?

Okay, so I tried using a molex connector this time instead of the SATA power connector, and it's showing up under device manager, and installed the drivers right. Also showing up under disk management. (I also changed the SATA connector to a different one on the mobo.)



Still doesn't show up under next to my other hard drives in the computer window...

HALP.

Well from where you are now you just need to make a partition and the drive will show up in windows. just right click on that part that says unallocated and make a new partition.

Heh, wish I would've waited to see that.

I just got done install most of Windows 7 on it, now it shows up in my old install on my Seagate drive.

Turns out some the issues I kept having were the SATA cable the guy included with the hard drive. Replaced it with another I had and I'm now running a fresh copy of Windows 7 on the hard drive.
