I'll give the guy credit as he really is one of the first, if it not the first, of the PC tech reviewers who turned himself into a brand...

LOL, Linus missed being the first by a quarter century.

Guys like Thomas Pabst and teenager Anand Shimpi were really the pioneers in turning themselves into PC review brands. Both started publishing hardware reviews on this little ol' strange thing called the World Wide Web back in the Nineties when everyone was else was still pumping out deadtrees magazines.

Note that both web domains still exist and are recognized as credible PC tech media sources.

Linus does communicate to a younger generation but his coverage isn't groundbreaking in the slightest. In 2023 many people tend to forget or ignore the early pioneers of the WWW and believe that today's popular people are the innovators. Today people stand on the shoulders of giants and sometimes see farther, but there's very little in PC hardware review in 2023 that hasn't been done before decades ago.

This is pretty much the same with any online media. People today are shortsighted and forget real online media pioneers like Danni Ashe, Justin Kan, Chris Wolfe & Tom Anderson (Myspace), etc.

BIOS editing for Pascal and newer architectures is impossible unless the encryption key is cracked or Nvidia's private key and/or private editor software leaks.

Well then, awaiting the thread with the details on how to do so. Not only editing programs do not exist and you cannot simply do it manually with HxD, but the GPUs have a security processor which will reject a modified binary without a matching checksum and correct signing key. Needless to say, nvflash will not accept unsigned BIOS binaries and if you use a hardware programmer, your GPU will brick for the aforementioned reason.

You may be the only guy who has a modified BIOS for anything newer than the 900 series, so, impart us mortals with some of your wisdom

but much like your posts they epically failed at becoming a youtube tech brands so maybe re-read my post for compression before you post. "Youtube brands" not web site brands

I mean, it's a different medium targeted at different folks. Thomas Pabst founded Tom's Hardware and Anand Shimpi founded AnandTech. While both of them may very well be past their prime and descended into being "digital magazines" targeted at the normie crowd, they indeed retained a lot of their credibility, that is, until Avram Piltch decided to post that just buy it RTX shill article (just kidding on this one, by the way).

As for the spinoffs, I'll just bring up the most notorious, Igor Wallossek does a great job with his new website (which is a nerd's dream lair), and he was right to return the Tom's Hardware Germany brand back then. The machine translation on his site's English portion could do some work, but he is quite approachable and will always answer your questions as he is able to speak English just fine.

I have both him and Aris (who recently departed the TPU team) added on FB, and will happily follow them wherever the future brings. Great folks who you should listen to every chance you get.

correct, they are not youtube brands. Linus saw an under served market in a new medium and went after it. Props to him. Anandtech, Toms, along with sites like Ars Techina, The tech report, and others started in the late 90's and filled a new medium with tech web sites. He does know his stuff although how many reviews can you possibly post online about marginal improvements, paper launches, "how to build" videos., etc.,etc

Yes, they are more entertainment (or promo) then they are pure performance reviews but clearly that's what that audience wants. I do believe he knows his stuff more than he lets on and like you said he is "good" at it unlike Jay2cents, tech jesus (written reviews by patrick not included), the asian guy who does the fake accent, and many many others.

Linus is a pro at content creation, but it's clear most often that these days he is just reading the script. The writers aren't testing stuff either, just pulling out of their ass half the time.

If possible check out Chinese tik tok where influencers just push the product directly to consumer in the ten of thousands of units. It's basically home shopping network but the programing is horizontal as opposed to vertical. Think Amazon live but on much larger scale and far more profitable.

No kidding, my TUF 3090 is a large GPU in its own right but it looks like an ITX toy next to most 4090's I've seen so far.

I don't see what you're trying to prove. NVIDIA Inspector is capable of checking if a BIOS has been modified, and it clearly doesn't report that it was. You're making a claim but not backing it up, and well, only sucks that we are techies here and may not be so easily impressed.

By all means, even if it's for selfish personal reasons, write up a thread on how to achieve this, I'd love to raise my 3090's power limit from 375 to around 450 W without shunt modding it.

I don't know if you know how a quadro p1000 works... is that speed are normal for you? exactly nvinspector doesn't detect biosmod... it's all ok for him. I already told you that I haven't decided what to do yet. There are 1000 ways to prove I succeeded...

P1000 = GTX 1050; that seems like a hefty overclock but not entirely sure a BIOS mod is required to achieve it. Either way, I await your thread eagerly, you will make the news if you bring this to the community

p1000 is locked you can only overclock via biosmod.
for now I have only received offenses and for this reason I have lost the desire to share. the goal is to try on ampere, i'm looking for something used on ebay that doesn't cost a capital and has oc margin. maybe a 3060/70... obviously I modified only what interested me I don't have the total knowledge of the bios, between pascal and turing they are similar but not the same.
