What AM5 motherboard do I choose?

the low end A620M Pro RS ITX crap board for 120€ handles a 7950X in P95 indefinetly without problems and has a decent headroom VRM temperature wise.
GB A620 M sure can't lol. I don't have the ASRock one, but I don't think it will fair much better. Granted the data sheet says it's good until 125c, but I don't like the idea of going to the limit. It's well known inferred thermal testing on MB isn't accurate.

Can't afford the former. The latter, by how much is this better than MSI MAG B650M Mortar?
Haven't gotten my hands on the B650M Mortar yet, but The Intel ones are meh. The two I listed are my choices. Though GB 650M Elite AX is probably good as well. The whole Elite series from Gigabyte has been good for both Intel and AMD this generation.

As a user of Tuf gaming B550-plus wifi II, with a 5800X3D. I would say my bigbrother B650 should do the job just fine.

Can't afford the former. The latter, by how much is this better than MSI MAG B650M Mortar?
It has more VRM phases (lower current per phase, though), some PCIe 5.0 (being E-suffix chipset mandates it), one M.2 slot extra but 4 SATA ports less. Audio solution is inferior but it works. There's also a GPU support in the box as a bonus. If it fancies you, the Steel Legend has RGB while the Mortar only has connectors for it.
Similar to the Steel Legend there's also the Asrock B650E PG Riptide, which make some tradeoffs against its more expensive sibling.

Unless you run into some incompatibility issues, though (ssd pcie generation, or ram-related), you'd be hard pressed to notice too much of a difference between using one or another.

Lacks WiFi. But for this discount is considerable since my other needs are met. Buying an m.2 WiFi thing won't be a huge PITA. Have to read about its sound system, I want it to be better than complete garbage xD

Audio solution is inferior
I'll pass then.

Then you'd better probably skip Asrock almost altogether. Only the Taichis (both B650E and X670E) have current flagship audio (ALC4082) and X670E Steel Legend uses ALC1220 (former flagship, my X470 uses it). Everything else is ALC897. Not to mention the outputs: having only the TOSLINK out, mic in and line out jacks on a flagship motherboard (Taichi) sounds like a joke.
The Mortar, on the other hand, has the ALC4080. It's almost as good as it gets, chip-wise. It also has the line in, right out and center out (line out acts as left) jacks that no current gen Asrock has.

Doubt you'll hear the difference without good $$ headphones.
I got them.
The Mortar
Will buy this then. Seems like I don't have any other choice if I don't raise the stakes (extra money would be spent on a new GPU since my backup one is RX 480 and I want something less outdated).

Not anything wrong with that choice, honestly (much on the opposite, according to both Guru3D and HW Busters). If you want essentially the same hardware with an extra M.2 (choosing standard ATX instead of mATX), you'd be looking for a B650 Tomahawk. If more feature-packed than that while still MSI, either B650 Edge or Carbon.

So you have a sound card too?
I don't. My current sound is the integrated in Z490 Vision D one, namely ALC1220-VB. I want anything which isn't worse than this.

If I had to choose an AMD5 board for myself, I would get a:
ASUS ProArt X670E-CREATOR WIFI
If not this, then I would choose ASROCK X670E Taichi (no 10 gigabit adapter)
Both are full with useful features, the ASUS has 10 gigabit LAN.
Both has full 16× PCIe slot and a second one which can bifurcate to 8×+8× PCIe sharing with the first slot.

As good as they are, there's context involved here.
Someone looking at low to mid-end B650 models won't ever consider a high-end X670E.

Dude, I stated I only got $250 to spend. These two are way over 4 hunnit. Can't realistically afford it. And even if I could, upgrading GPU is more important.

Got a small brainstorm today. The story is I am new to Ryzens and don't really feel like I can answer this Q myself. Not competent enough.

I might become an owner of a Ryzen 7700X CPU. Some rich kid is gonna sell it for a stupid $50 amount of cash but I only get a CPU. Everything else is not included.

I see it being planted instead of i7-11700 in my main PC and being used as my main PC as well as making i7-11700 (will even probably dismiss it and use an ES CPU from my specs) build my secondary system. The only way I load my CPU high is gaming. No 3D, no design, no programming, no nothing. My job is a writer so I don't really need anything better than 1st gen i5 for my job.

I do not want any liquid cooling. I have no intent to OC this CPU, it's 100% gonna be undervolted. Don't wanna spend any more than 20 quid ($25) on a cooler. 16 GB of RAM is enough but I'd buy 32 GB just in case (not interested in super clocked models, will just grab something average of 5.5 GHz or something and then tighten the timings a bit). I need WiFi and at least two m.2 sockets. At least 7 USB ports on the I/O shield is a must.

I'm brand agnostic and only want my motherboard to be as stable as possible considering $250 of budget. Form factor doesn't play any role, I'm fine with either ATX, m-ATX and E-ATX. m-ITX will also do as well.

These four are the cheapest motherboards meeting my needs. Which one is the least infamous for various glitches? 20 thousand rubles = 200 USD.View attachment 311116
AORUS or MORTAR. Both are good. MSI "pro" are cheap-designed cr@p, for same price they are ROFLing.

Sorry for my mistake!
Then I can advice the ASROCK B650 PG Lightning for you instead.
Sadly no X670 board can fit into your budget :(

Well, personally I don't really like MSI, but you might can get MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI
or GIGABYTE B650 GAMING X AX with no USB 3.2
I suggesting not to get a mini ATX board, just to have the main heating elements more apart.

That Giga was already discussed early in this thread. And the Mortar is better built, only being mATX which seems no issue to op.

have the main heating elements more apart.
Doesn't matter, my build is horizontal anyway. And I run most equipment heavily undervolted in a room of 55 to 65F (+13 to +18C). ~110 W GPU, ~60 W CPU, no LGBT shenanigans, nothing extra. My PSU is chilling, so are other components. I rarely hit high 120s (+60s °C) so I will be fine with a Ryzen as well.

no USB 3.2
Not a concern at all. USB2 is more than enough for me, I only want to have as many these ports as humanly possible.

My tooth decided it's the dentist's time I will buy and not a motherboard. Sucks to be mortal.

GB A620 M sure can't lol. I don't have the ASRock one, but I don't think it will fair much better. Granted the data sheet says it's good until 125c, but I don't like the idea of going to the limit. It's well known inferred thermal testing on MB isn't accurate.

Haven't gotten my hands on the B650M Mortar yet, but The Intel ones are meh. The two I listed are my choices. Though GB 650M Elite AX is probably good as well. The whole Elite series from Gigabyte has been good for both Intel and AMD this generation.
My board doesnt even have a VRM temp sensor (at least not in hwinfo), I assumed it was the norm these days.

With Intel, I only updated BIOS when something ridiculous happened such as no CPU support (e.g. 3th gen into a Z68 mobo) or no UEFI mode for PCI-E (same Z68 mobo lol). I heard AM4 and AM5 are not quite like that and you wanna update your BIOS every once in a while. Is that true?
why not? better memory support, very actual for "cheapos" this time, for example. just some magical "improved stability" does no harm too.

the low end A620M Pro RS ITX crap board for 120€ handles a 7950X in P95 indefinetly without problems and has a decent headroom VRM temperature wise.

how it is CRAP board with 2 HS on VRM LOL
