Steam controller. PS4 or Switch if I end up playing something twin-stick-favorable from the couch, which is rare.

Nintendo Switch Pro controller. Great experience thus far, comes with a very high quality Nintendo-branded USB-C cable as well.

This is coming after my fourth DualSense, I find them to be very low quality and very unreliable - one of them developed unfixable, extreme stick drift, I tried to open it and it was a disaster. One malfunctioned and shorted out causing the USB-C port to smoke out, another one has battery issues and doesn't hold enough current even if you mean to use it wired. It just disconnects. The most recent one still works, but it's begun to develop very heavy stick drift as well.

A PS4 controller that served both PC and PS4 for a few years until the buttons got very sticky.
(Well it's actually 2 or 3, because I'm careless and I drop things too hard).
The one I'm using is cleaned just a few days ago, and the sticky buttons are fixed. Minor stick drift upwards are still there, but for the only game I play on PS4 (GT7) it is not an issue.

Then my brother gave me this 8bitdo Pro 2 a few months earlier. Other than the slightly too large size and a L2/R2 trigger that has a deadzone too small, I'm currently okay with that. That said, I might get back to a PS4 or similar sized and shaped controller just because I'm too used to it.

Note that on PC I only play racing games 99.99% of the time, current stuff and emulated PS1 and PS2 stuff included. Other than that I play IIDX INFINITAS and BMS (both require a dedicated controller, and is very unlikely the subject here).

My wife got me 4 bog standard Xbox one wireless controllers a couple years ago and a wifi adaptor and I've never looked back.

One of them developed a bad shoulder button, but the remaining three have been rock solid.

With my Steam box launching into big picture mode, I basically have the mother of all consoles and it's pretty sweet to be able couch game with a PC.

Been using the Xbox elite series 1 and 2 over the years. I play with controller whenever possible so the elite series are worth it for me.

I think my controller is broken. It's in two parts, which uncannily resemble a mouse and a keyboard, respectively.

Logitech F710. I have a pair of them I got from a bargain bin and I use them occasionally with various computers in the house, especially with emulation. They're a few years old now and still work just fine.

For small hands that only need a dpad and buttons I have a pair of 8Bitdo Zero 2 controllers.

a GuliKit kk3 Max, it's pretty good.

Weaknesses:

- Could have had better feeling triggers
- A/B/X/Y switches trigger sometimes twice
- Firmware Updating procedure is pretty weird
- Sticks aren't grippy

The first controller I really liked after trying several ones out.

What games do you find work well with the track pad style of controller? Just curious. I also have a Steam Controller, its been in storage in a ziploc bag for years though. I might get it out and give it a try if you can recommend me some games

It's less a question of what works well on the Steam Controller than what doesn't on a "traditional" controller. Older games without Xinput support are common applications. Currently, I'm only using the SC with Last Epoch and FFXIV. I'd stop short of saying it works well on either, though. LE's UI is designed with controller in mind, but it's still much easier to navigate menus with M/KB. As I mostly play at my desk, I end up using both. Dusted off the SC because mouse move was wreaking havoc on my wrist. Only use the SC in FFXIV when I'm doing a lot of running around in the overworld for the same reason. Millions of people play on console, though, so it must be doable. I've just not bothered to figure it out.

To be a little kinder to the SC, it's like so many alternative input methods: you need to adapt. I found it works pretty well (but not as well as M/KB, unsurprisingly) for controller-friendly FPSs with some settings tweaking. Gyro control was the key for me. I set up the trackpad as trackball style, and for gyro to disable with trackpad input. That allowed for coarse aim with the trackpad, and fine aim with gyro. Since the SC is customizable to a nearly absurd degree, getting a decent balance there was a mere matter of experimentation.

I'll reiterate: Settings are paramount. Nothing is designed with the SC in mind; rather the SC was designed to work with everything. Some games have excellent developer- or community-contributed layouts. I've used several, though usually still end up making tweaks. PM me if you'd like to discuss further.
