so i tried freezer trick and this time for much longer but my hdd only worked temporarily, i got my enclosure replaced by amazon which disappointingly i am returning because it's of no use for me now as i am unlikely to buy new 3.5" hdd. Also, i got a feeling something is wrong this cheap enclosure but right now i have no plans of checking internally because i am feeling sick and it's bit tedious due to case design, the 2nd hdd hole is right at the edge of case's inside covering, though it's easy when lay it down somewhere.

Anyway, coming back to the topic, i can't really understand what's going on with my hdd, it would just work randomly for a little while after freezer trick then it would also show good health in CrystalDiskInfo but there's a catch it originally showed caution and i disabled reallocated sector count but that shouldn't prevent hdd from working properly.

Yes, a high reallocated sector count means your HDD is dying. You just turned off the alarms.

So what is the issue? What are the symptoms?

so i tried freezer trick
What freezer trick? It sounds dodgy already, I don't even know why I asked.:fear:

HDDs generally don't like cold. Not to mention, if you put any electronic device below freezing temp, then plug it in straight away, you'll have condensation on it (water vapour turning liquid, like dew) which can kill it. You should never use any electronic device below freezing temp. I hope that's not what you did.

Then maybe get better first, and then test the HDD internally. ;) You can even use longer SATA cables, you don't need to bother with screws.

Freezer trick is an old trick to ressurect dying drives long enough to get your data off. I don't know why it (sometimes) works either.

Key word here is "get your data off." The ressurection is never permanent.

it's not that high, it's 10, same as my other hdd which shows up fine. Is raw value the more important thing here?

whenever it stops working it would not proceed any further than bios logo screen

it fixed my 10yr old 1tb hdd twice, 2016 and 2017 and ever since it's since it's been working fine.

those are slightly more expensive, i can't spend that much. I will check the hdd by keeping it on the hdd mounting bay when i get well.

It might also be a dead motor or controller, which isn't picked up by SMART data, usually. Do you hear any weird noises from it?

no it does not make any weird sound, in fact, it doesn't even spin up.

probably, i wish my hdd didn't die like this, i had high hopes, 2tb is lots of storage though enclosure doesn't seem that well made (connectors are a bit tight).
Yes, that's the actual data part in hexidecimal.
i can share with you the the raw value of my working hdd but that would be pointless, as my non working hdd wouldn't even start up that's not possible with it

that doesn't seem right, those are usually bits of plastic, the quality is not very relevant, connectors tight also doesn't seem like it could cause a faulty hdd. It could be, idk, but it seems a bit of a stretch.

i mean it's easy to slot it in but takes bit of force to take out

What is wrong with your HDD is that it is dying. Accept this and move on.

Your hard drive is shot, the enclosure has nothing to do with it. If you get it up and running again, you better pull your data off. Even 1 reallocated sector is the beginning of the end.....not if, but when.

The "freezer trick" (which has been noted to work upon occasion) is a last-ditch effort to retrieve your data, not a means of fixing and continuing to use the drive.

What you should have bought instead of an enclosure was a new hard drive.
