I scanned 2 hard drives using HD Tune Pro 5.50 and this was the result:

Hard Disk 1 (Samsung)
samsung.png

Hard Disk 2 (Hitachi)
2.png

Can anybody explain the meaning of this graphs? Or whatsoever, thank you very much!

its actually 2 graphs in one, the blue curve showing speed over time (with Hard Disks its normal for this to gradually go down over time, as the drives cache is being used up) with the yellow dots showing random access times.

judging from the results, i'd say the Hitachi is either very old, damaged, or just slow.

edit: The random dips in performance on the Samsung are probably due to it being the drive the OS is installed to, since the OS is most likely doing something in the background while the test is running, hard drives don't exactly multitask well, this is why SSDs are so popular (and more expensive)

Yes you are right, the hitachi is old and it is from my broken laptop.. btw I am jealous of your connection speed. I am from the Philippines and connection here is very slow..

Both look OK, other than the actual reason the transfer speed slows is that the data under the head at the center of the physical disks is traveling much slower so the read and write will be slower to compensate, in these tests drive is issued a command to not cache the results or the cache is filled with junk to make the test valid. This is also why the yellow dots take longer at the center of the drive, it takes longer to seek to the correct track and sector when the data is at teh center due to slowing the sweep arm and heads as the approach the center of the disks.

Hitach is probably a 5400RPM and the Samsung is probably a 7200RPM, and as well the density of data on the disk will increase the read and write speeds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_storage_density
