As you know, most of PSU's are developed in a handful of corporations. Even Corsair, Asus Thor, MSI, Cooler master, Evga are regular customers of this companies.

As far as I know these companies are Seasonic, FSP and Channel Well Technology. So which one is the best (or well known) PSU maker? I know the specific model matters the most, but in general terms which brand would you pick?

There are a few others, HEC comes to mind. There is a list of PSU's graded by Cultists, I like to rely on that.

MSI has a few A-tier Gold (Best units in the tier) and Blue (Quiet operation) models ;)

Super Flower are the manufacturer who makes everyone elses psu's, they only make psu's and they are smart enough to use Japanese capacitors which is important because Chinese capacitors are usually a smaller capacitor in a big capacitor case. I also like EVGA power supplies and really anyone who offers a 10 year warranty on their product is generally reliable.

Why Japanese capacitors is an important requirement, if you look in the 2200milli farad cap there's probably a 600mf.

Actually had 1 Enermax went out with a pop one day starting up the PC, but the system still works now with a new Enermax PSU (my dads rig now).

i had so many PSUs in my life and only one corsair RM750X died after a week (it had insane coil whine from the beginning and just never started again)
every single other PSU was 100% solid and never had any issues.

buy whatever suits your needs and you're fine. (my 4090 at 1.1V pulling 500W runs port royal loops with a 99€ NZXT C850... on two daisychained 8 pins)

That's very surprising to hear given the track record of the RM/RMx series of psus. Have you tried using your warranty?

This is actually a bit of a misnomer because there's "Japanese Capacitors" that are still made in China despite being under Japanese brands. The important thing to remember is looking at brands of capacitors used and, most of the time, you're better off looking at individual reviews since most of the time these guys know which caps are good and bad when it comes to PSUs. We're not in the capacitor plague era anymore and there's plenty of Chinese brands that make good ones. It's just a matter of knowing which kind you're getting.

If I had a gun to my head and I had to pick only one brand to get my PSU from, it would be Corsair. Ever since they updated their VS CV* series into actually being a decent PSU they now have an entire lineup without a bad or unreliable PSU. Of course, this is assuming you can get the 2022-specific VS CV* model and avoid the CV VS* models of the past which is no guarantee. Ideally I never want to answer this question because every brand makes a bad power supply somewhere in their history or current lineup.

Edit: Mixed up the VS and CV models.

You have an RM series of PSU. You're definitely good as pretty much every reviewer out there consistently rates that series as one of the best you can get for the price. Also I edited my post because I confused CV and VS. I never claimed I was a smart man.

Yeah, it's on the A tier on two different lists. Also, JohnnyGuru gave his thumbs up approval on it on a different forum, which gave me the confidence to make the purchase.

I just never heard of those terms you were talking about just now. No big deal, main thing is I am rock solid stable! :toast:

Awesome to hear, and the CV and VS are just corsair's lowest-tier power supplies in their lineup.

So far I only had 1 PSU die on me since 2008 and that was a Cooler Master MWE 650W Gold PSU.
It only had to power a R5 1600x/RX 570 system so it wasn't exactly stressed, randomly developed an issue that it would shut down my PC and I coulnd't even start it up w/o switching the PSU completely off and then back on.
O ye and that PSU had a coil whine too.

Sent it back to the retailer I bought it from and I got a 500W Seasonic Core GM as a replacement unit, this happened during the Covid lockdowns so there wasn't many options at the time so I picked this and so far its been problem free. 'quiet and has no coil whine, powering my current rig just fine'

To be honest I'm not that picky when it comes to PSU brands, as long as it works as it should and has some okay reviews I'm good with any within my budget range.

I can find most brands in my country but super fower is almost nonexistent here, only a few models are available.
Also we only get 5 years warranty maximum from our retailers after that its manufacturer only which is kinda meh to deal with on my own so anything more than 5 years doesn't exist for me.

I am indifferent to the brands.
I bought my new PSU looking at:
1. Rated power
2. Certification - Gold in my case
3. Price
4. Warranty but anything more than 2-3 years was fine.

If Kolink gets something cheap and Gold-certified, then I am in.
PSU | kolink.eu

Usually, I am not even that picky, and buy the cheapest no-name and call it a day.
Never had an issue with a no-name :D
