Good thread here, I 100% was dead set on going with AM5 for my next build, but the 95 celsius being the new norm thing just is weird to me. I don't like that concept. I don't like going into motherboard and messing with undervolts and crap, its annoying quite frankly. I messed with PBO a lot on my old AM4 board and I spent more time doing that shit than actually gaming and enjoying my rig.

I already have my 13600k ordered at msrp. and I will be leaving it at stock, finding QVL ram for whatever mobo I go with, enable XMP, reboot, install win 11. and boom done. time to game.

going to be fucking great. can't wait. I expect I will get 65 celsius in gaming as I will be using a better cooler than the Noctua U14 used in W1zz's review.

I didn't vote because there's no suitable choice.

I have both AMD and Intel systems and I am not planning on upgrading any of them in the immediate future. My computing needs are met with what I currently own.

For what it's worth, my next purchase will likely be a Mac with a M-series SoC as a replacement for my Mac mini 2018 (Intel Core i7).

Waiting to see what Meteorlake and X3D parts look like.... Although I'll probably only do the upgrade if a 4090 gets held back by my 5950X at 4k which I find doubtful. A 5800X3D could be an option as the new cpu aren't overly impressive vs it.

I was semi tempted to grab a 7700X and a decent AM5 board though just becuase it'll likely get 3-4 more in socket upgrades... Raptorlake would only be appealing to me if I already went Alderlake earlier this year investing into it now being a dead platform seems silly to me.

My rig is very underpowered for modern games but it doesn't matter. I'm not playing newer games. I'm playing older games for now to catch up on my backlog from the past and games that I missed playing back in the day. There are many gems out there from the past that are a lot of fun to play but they probably seem ugly to modern gamers.

Just built a system with the 12700k at the start of the year. I’m set for a while.

If i had to build another system the 13600k looks tempting but i’d need to look closely at AMD’s counterpart as they also have some nice chips.

When I decide to upgrade any of the computers, then I will decide which platform to go with. I may stay, or I may switch. It will depend on what is available at the time.

The i5 13600k is exceptionally good for the price. If I were going to build a new rig today I would go with that. It's gives only slightly less FPS than the i9 13900k and it's $270 cheaper.

I've long been in the same boat (playing new AAA's less & less and clearing backlog + replaying much loved Golden Oldies more). There was a time I'd upgrade for the sake of benchmark epeen, but I've long grown out of that and these days I only upgrade when it actually starts to feel slow and current i5-10400F simply doesn't, so no upgrade here from me. If I buy something new it's likely to be a 34" Ultrawide which just shifts the burden to the GPU more and CPU less. Also can't say I'm a fan of "90c is the 'new norm' for mid-range CPU's because pre-overclock benchmark-skewing p*ssing contest" thing from either brand.

The 13600/700k will be incredible overclockers if tuned per core.

The power limit shenanigans can easily be fixed if you know what you're doing - plus I strongly believe a 5.8 GHz+ 1/2 core load and 5.5 GHz+ all core load will be achievable on any of the K range chips. The 13900K was tested at 5.6 GHz all core with no issues except heat (which can be dealt with in various ways, including expanding a loop or delidding).

Personally I'll stick with my X3D unless there's some other last hurrah for the AM4 socket. I do like Intel though.

13600K in cine e.g. is pretty nuts, and that's without OC.

From the few early ocing results I've seen, the 13700s are beasts! The 13900s are going to be a hard sell if these kinds of results hold true.
I'm feeling a microcenter itch coming on.

I decided I'm not upgrading anytime soon, would be nice for benchmarking scores but my i7 12700K still does it's job very well for my needs...
