Who's PSU can you paint?

A lotta modders like to to re-paint the insides of their beloved case to a color of their liking

well, what about Power Supplies?

I e-mailed couple manufactures asking if re-painting the power supply casing is allowed without voiding the warranty
I'd like to share the results

question asked:

will I still be covered by (company name)'s warranty if I paint the power supply unit to a different color with the fan opening and warranty sticker masked?

Corsair Rep, RAM GUY: YES

*if my wording is confusing - yes = still covered by warranty, no = voids warranty when psu painted

*2 these are currently the brands I'd buy from on Newegg, other brands weren't included because of the following reasons:
a) not as competitive with pricing
b) I don't want my computer to start a fire

let me know if you guys would like to see the exact replies I've received
feel free to share your results from other brands

it should depend on the quality of the job, if you mask it off well and no paint gets on the internals then i cannot see why it would be a burden to the PSU i dont see it causing any rise in temperature, it should only void if people do a bad job and get the paint on the inside where it can cause damage right?

This is why I like Corsair, They let me mod my cable sleeving without voiding the warranty too!

Non of this statements as Yes or No ... are valid .

Only official warranty rules , are valid .

If there is no such rule on the official warranty paper , that cames with the product .... then its not valid .

Im confused so what your saying only the things written in the documents that come with psu void the warrenty if its not mentioned it doesnt?

I actually pull the internals out before painting a psu, especially when using paints with metal flakes in them. If I remember the only item I desolder is the power plug and switch.

but then your taking it apart and no matter for what reason if that sticker gets ripped then your warranty is void

All I use is a hair dryer to heat up the gooyness to pull the sticker off safely, and reapply once done.

but then you'd have to paint it back to it's original color if the need for a RMA arises

What i say are ..... that if it does not say on the paper .... Yes open it and paint it ... its not valid .

The point is that in order to paint it , you must to open the housing ... thats not allowed for any reason ... most about safety concerns .

That's a relief to hear! I was always worried that if my PSU packed up I would have to unsleeve it to send it back. Just out of interest, where did you find this info out?
