Why my nvme runs so hot and slow on my m.2_1 slot?

My build is

-ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero x570
- AMD RYZEN 5900x
-Asus tuf case gt501
-Asus strix gtx 1070
-Corsair h100i xt pro cooler.

I just bought the adata xpg gammix s50 lte 1tb - pcie 4.0 but I'm getting really bad speeds and temps on the m.2_1 socket near the cpu. It ides at almost 50 C, also I was in the bios 1 time, then boot up and got idle temps of 69 C. Under load it goes up to 74 C and takes a lot of time to go down. The ssd is using the heatsink it came with

Then I moved it to the m.2_2 near the chipset. and got idle temps of 39 C - 43 C and speed similar to what is expected of this drive. Under load it goes up to 70 but then comes down fast. Is there posible something wrong with the motherboard's m.2 socket or something? I just want to make sure if there is something wrong with the motherboard or ssd. Since I still can do a Warranty Claim for both.

If I am not mistaken the slot near the chipsets basically sits under the GPU, right ? So it is actively cooled to a degree by the GPU's cooler, the slot near the CPU usually receives airflow from a CPU air cooler but since you have an AIO there is no air circulating in that area.

That explains the difference in temperatures but still the drive shouldn't throttle so bad, that's strange.

I quicked looked in the users manual for this board and M.2_1 is right above the GPU:

Well for my own system I had to reseat my Samsung 970 EVO a couple of times before my Asus ROG STRIX B550-A Gaming would pickup the SSD and it runs really hot in my second slot even it has better cooling possibilities then my Sabrent SSD.

It still shouldn't heat up this much though.

N.o.T...

I use an AIO cooler, and neither of my m.2's (2x WD SN750 Blacks) average only 45-50c under heavy/multi-tasking workloads and 32-40c at idle, and one of them is directly under the GPU also, so this is not a real explanation IMHO :)

And given the OP's case, cooler & mobo layouts, he should have plenty of airflow, assuming it is set up correctly (pulling air into the front case) and the fans are all working normally, I suspect there is another issue here....

like maybe low fan speeds or the fan curve(s) set too low, or the controller not working correctly to allow them to ramp up when the internal case temp goes up :)

I also have an AIO and my NVME drive never overheats but then I also have 5 case fans and the GPU also has an AIO so there is very little heat being dumped in the case.

This needs some temp readings to get a better picture of things. we have 2 examples here (@Vya Domus and @bonehead123 ) that indicate the OP is possibly doing something wrong.

whats the case fan config? does the drive have a heatsink? what happens when the side of the case is off and a table fan pointed into it?

I have 3 front 120mm fans that pull air into the case. On top 3 120mm fans for the radiator, those pull air through the radiator and out of the case. And the outtake fan in the back. I put the fans at max speed (Fan Xpert 4 from asus) with the front temper glass panel removed and got a bit better speeds but still no were near what I would expect from this drive (write speeds are specially bad). Also each time I ran a test it got worse. It does have the heatsink that come with the ssd. I'll try putting a fan on it later and doing more testing.

So you appear to have the cooling part well covered, therefore something else is definitely wrong somewhere in your system...
