Hi

I was wondering why Dolby vision not exists for PC monitors and if will enhance colors more than Windows 11 HDR and without buying HDR 1000 monitor ? your opinions ?

I thought some of the Alienware OLEDs feature Dolby vision?! The Alienware AW2725Q that was recent announced supports it, as does the ROG Swift PG27UCDM. I only know about those specifically as I was having a nose recently. Personally more interested in trying to minimize VRR flicker on AMD hardware.

You gotta remember that Dolby Vision is not free of royalties like HDR 10. I'm pretty sure if there was a demand for it they would make it but why put in a feature for the mass populous that no one has asked for and has a cost. Some expensive monitors have it but you also pay top dollar for those.

Displays with Dolby Vision PC certification do exist. The 2024 LG G4 OLED has Dolby Vision PC support. I believe the C4 also got DV PC support. Sadly this was not backported to the 2023 models, my G3 doesn't have it. You'll find this in the HDMI Settings pane, where you see the options for HDMI-CEC and 4:4:4 passthrough. Actual monitors, however, I am not aware of any. Still, the 42 inch C4 offers 4K, 144Hz support, so if you're in the market for a DV PC certified display, that is probably your go to.

But to address your question: no, it's not required for great HDR. Dolby is a proprietary format, and only DV-encoded media will benefit from this.

I have it in my android tablet xiomi pad 6. Picture is great better than my 27" Benq IPS monitor. Did not know that some PC monitors models has it but yes they are top end. Good to know.

I think this would tick some of the boxes for me, and probably set to come down in price with the release of newer monitors this year. (I believe this version features Dolby Vision. I know some Asus monitors had it / or were going to have it patched in via a firmware update)

besides the licensing fee (adding cost), Dolby Vision was mainly conceived for movies/video content, to get consistent IQ across different brands of screens (read tv), not games.
i think support for latter was just added on, to make them some more money.

Dolby Vision is far more common in laptops, even the cheap asus Vivobook slate OLED was certified at some point...Dell is basically throwing DV left and right, even on the Inspiron laptops :D. Asus at least got the decency to only propose it on mini LED and OLED panels.
