Sim Racing is pretty big right now, in part thanks to Covid. That is not the point though. I was thinking about Mods. Crew Chief to be specific, that adds a spotter to most of the new Sims. I play LMU and AMS2 alot and it is great to hear the program say "Let's go get him". "keep him away", "there are 2 on the left". You get the point. There is no Crew Chief for GT7. Mods still make PC Gaming what it is,

Gran Turismo is not a sim, but I grew up on the first two and got the basics of a sport driving to improve upon in RL. I could agree on everything else, but that comparison was not fair.

But yeah, do any sims for consoles even exist? Considering the majority of sims demand mods, not just for utilizing various peripherals and related tweaks, but also for the gameplay QoL features, community content, online connectivity that doesn't rely on a good will of a certain company. I could write a blog on the subject.
Consoles are a low effort environment, and that philosophy reflects on everything related, even on its users. Not much to talk about really.
You want to dumb down your kids? Get them a gaming console (they've already got a smartphone for their first birthday). But it didn't used to be like that, at least wasn't some 20 years ago.

The best games I've played were modded. Some required mods to even work properly, some to improve beyond the scope of its creators. That might be the nicest thing about mods. Not relying on a strict creator's vision (and implementation drawbacks). Playing a game by your own rules, with your own flavors added. Where your imagination is the only limit.

I would've thought about buying a prosole but a console... Nah, doesn't sound quite right. However, PERSONAL computer is what the doc ordered.

Jokes aside, PC gaming is literally wild west. You can just lawfully neutrally download whatever slop available on Steam, you can yohoho every single piece of gaming jewels (not that you should!), you can apply a three gorillion mod compilation to your Skyrim clone and have Hercules mating with Cleopatra whilst Tarantino is filming it. It's just... the end gamer's imagination is the limit.

Sad things like anti-consumer pricing, horrid GPU launches and insane system requirements do happen from time to time but consoles have it even worse.

Especially when things like Homeworld 3 are on Humble Choice. It is much more nuanced than before but in some cases Gaming is even more accessible than before. I hope people don't take this thread the wrong way. I am not saying that consoles don't have a place just that PC Gaming today is defacto console Gaming with better hardware but Indie Games are insane in Quality.

Yup modding and generally being able to tinker with my games is also one of my main reason for sticking to PC gaming. 'That and because I'm not on friendly terms with controllers unless its for a fighting game or a walking simulator thats slow paced..'

Yeah ever since I think about 2018 indie gaming just literally exploded and made the PC so much more valuable than any console. Even despite most indies appearing on consoles now too. Just the fact you can cheat, mod, add content at will.... its... every game just has limitless potential, whereas on the console you can just smell, feel the commercial pressure on everything you do. It kinda kills the escapism.

But you can kill your escapism on the PC too if you delve into the always online MTX driven clusterf*cks. Its just that on PC, you really don't have to, and still won't miss a thing. There is always an alternative.

Its also so much more a gamer's device than a console on a deeper level. Your imagination is the limit. I'm playing Hearts of Iron IV right now, and I'm just literally playing my own story of world domination, exactly the way I had envisioned it, with liberal use of cheats. Nowhere is there anything that says 'nope, we can't go there'. Technically I've destroyed the game, but boy is it fun. I'm leading a Communist faction as Soviet Union right now with Poland and Greece as the faction members despite them hating my communist guts, alongside Iran, Afghanistan and the PRC  Slowly taking over the world against an overwhelming number of weakened allies, while Adolf H. is trying to regain his Reich through some weird post WW2 vehicle called the Brotherhood of Europe... except he's so small now, nobody cares :D

I was talking to a friend about Star Citizen. He told me to stop waiting and play Spacebourne 2. All I will say is this is the Game that should have been Starfield. What is it? An Indie title. Just like BG3. Factions? yep. Side Missions? Yep.

Yeah Star Citizen... from the get go the whole thing was suspect AF because its always online, monetization remains a complete mystery (after going live) and they've already done some weird bait and switch with ship insurance, even though nobody really has an effin clue how it actually will work (and whether its even enough to keep servers and development up). But all the ingredients are there to keep knocking cash out of your wallet there. And that's not even considering its well... odd development path.

That shit ain't going nowhere. Fools & money parted. I'm still hoping to see and play SQ42 some day. Those 25 bucks I wasted on a ship and access will hopefully amount to more than a few circles around the hangar and all. There is more than that, these days... but its clear this project is brutally mismanaged. At the same time, when you do some dogfighting in your ship... its pretty amazing, immersive... graphically top notch... I get why some people keep hoping.
