I almost started a thread on this game yesterday, when it was featured on Steam. Looks like a pretty decent fusion of sim/shooter. The visuals look great, I love the way the tracers burn through the air. Some of the footage reminds me of classic gun camera footage, you know, the one where the guy is strafing the train cars and all of the sudden: BAM! huge frickin' fireball, holy cripes, pull up!

Thought I'd show off some screen shots:

Looks promising but I couldn't get my Saitek AV8R to work with it. Still trying:twitch:

wait for SOW BOB.. this is arcade crap ported from il2, SOW BOB is completely new code 99 percent realism, from the team that brought you il2 and teh engine for wings for prey.. ground up designed PC exclusive... and it will be in DX11... time for a new video card,

with multiplayer online campaigns, you can have real players on both sides over a whole real-time dynamic campaign that can alter history slightly based on performance, with ai also,, you can man aa guns as well, and possibly even tanks and vehicles, and maybe ships, planes and vehicles age realistically and weather over time paint chips off, engines get old ect ect.. ai pilots learn and develop their own personalities and tactics

the game is modeled down to individual bullets, if you shoot a batter the electric motor will stop, if you shoot a tire it goes flat, if you shoot a generator, the lights go out. ect ect

planes modeled down to every detail with exact damage modeling and airframe stress

you can go fishing too

serious firepower

land, get out of your plane, reload and fuel up, chat with the engineer, ask for a plane wax, or ask to check the oil, take off and do it again, land, man the aa guns or head to the pub for a drink,

planeshot up? if its not too bad teh ground crew can repair it.. but the plane will suffer aerodynamic problems with hasty repairs and patchwork.. maybey get lucky and have a new engine installed

many expansion packs are already in the works, and third party developers are already coding man add-ons

no detail is missed, even city streets have cars driving and people walking, strafe those bastards!!!

the invasion of Britain is a real threat!!

choose your realism.. don't waste a drop of graphics card power

bullet holes and damage appear exactly where you shoot

cockpits modeled to exact Real life specifications

all coming in 6 months

Thanks for the heads up, the graphics look beautiful. If its based on IL2's(PC) flight model as surfingman suggests thats no bad thing in my opinion, had (and still have) a lot of fun with that. If it doesn't fly like a sim that will be an absolute waste of those gorgeous visuals.

This is a nice video, poor quality but the landscape looks stunning. Has a nice sense of speed at low level too, always a bugbear of mine with flight sims. Take note Microsoft, this is what FSX could have looked like...

The screenshots of SOW BOB also look amazing, be interesting to see how it performs though.

Things are looking up in 2010!

Plain English? Whats SOW BOB stand for? And are you saying what Ken linked is bad, I havent really played flight sims, so need people to explain this a bit, because I watched some videos of Wings of Prey and it looked good, but the images you linked are better, got any video though? It just sounds very complex, like it would need servers running 24/7 that people joined, almost like an MMO.

Too true, although I DO like to have a nice big set of guns on me to chew up the scenery...

BTW, if you haven't heard there's a new expansion for LockOn+Flaming Cliffs coming soon. It has the DCS Blackshark world, and lets you fly online alongside Blacksharks so should allow epic co-op action!

SOW is oleg maddox's (the brainchild of il2) replacement for IL2 it includes most everything he wanted to do with IL2 but couldn't because of time, money and computer power.. this one is going to be epic.. even Oleg himself said this will be the flight sim for the next ten years just like IL2 was the WW2 flght sim of the last the last ten.. Storm of War, Battle of Britian is just the debue of the new engine.. this time its expandable from everything from WW1 all teh way up to modern jets, Oleg himself is just doing WW2 and Korea.. but hes contracted out to multiple third party developers to make addons / expansion packs, and even use the engine in new games.. its the most precise flight engine ever made, the processor power to unlock all of its features wont even exist for several years.. it fully utilizes up to 16 cores.. it uses individual cores for each process.. one for AI one for physics, one for this one for that.. making it a beast.. it models cloud formations realistic weather dynamics..using nasa supercomputer models to model every little breeze inside clouds from updrafts and downdrafts, to lowpresure spin, temperature change, humidity change, and all teh effects those factors hace on aerodynamics, plane stressing, individual component damage weathering aging, advanced ballistic physics and advanced individual ai and all kinds of other crap that will make your head spin, of course many features will have to remain off, until processor power catches up, and those screen shots above were just in DX9.. the DX11 screen shots arnt even out yet.. bet your ass they'll be epic.. no videos yet.. the game should be out before September 2010.. there is offline campaign mode, online play type arcade battles, and also dynamic campaigns.. there is a third party developer using it to create a separate MMORPG type WW2 game.. that will be in real time through whole years of WW2.. with dynamic campaigns and player development / progression.. involving the whole land air and sea war, all the player can participate in, .. theres even a rumor ubisoft SH5 will be incorporated for sub game, imagine you can fight other players in ships, from a sub.. and be talking in caht with your friend whos flying a bomber above spotting targets for you.. lol.. unrealistic maybey but fun.. but its just a rumor.. makes since i guess since they are both from ubisoft

That does sound insane, but that kind of game I think I would only be able to commit to playing multiplayer.

I like how download sites are starting to use torrents for larger files. It helps the people who have decent connections download but they dont have to have the super 1337 connection.

It is my understanding that SOW BOB is more for the serious flight sim player more so for the casual player. I provided information about Wings of Prey because:
-we should support a company trying to revive a genre on the PC that's been in limbo for sometime now
-from what I've understood of the game it should be fun to play for those not looking for serious sim.

I on the other hand long for the day they remake Red Baron based for current hardware (much improved graphics, etc). But that's another story :).
