Yeah a friend I sometimes talk to about tech stuff recently upgraded to a 5600X and I asked him why when the 5600 is cheaper/performs about the same and he told me nope it was the other way around. 'Hes from Mexico'

Where I live the 5600 non X is stil cheaper tho, something like ~219 $ for the 5600 and 252 $ for the 5600x.
Thats with VAT and one of the biggest etailer in my country but its about the same at other places too.

but Switzerland is way above you in that kind the newegg 5600X listed is 196.78chf (converted, which is close to what my R5 3600 did cost when my friend gave it to me) the Microspot 5600X listed is 333.85CAD

in Switzerland you have more luck in trying to find a unicorn than a MSRP
and even out of mining craze, in case of GPU, but luckily GPU pricing are also dropping right now .... maybe i can finally afford a RX 6600 XT to replace mz GTX 1070

What really gets me is I could drive across the border to my closest Micro Center (300 Miles) and actually save money vs the Fuel and other costs. If I purchase enough products.

i also could do that but the border customs control would cost me a leg ... (or even more if i tried to hide the loot)
same as with buying cheaper online abroad and the total cost being above 62.50chf (which is the customs taxes limitation, thus when i order things abroad i tend to stay on that limite, sadly PC component are not in that price range )

although Spain (which is where my parents live in retirement and where i go most often) has about the same pricing as Switzerland for "big" electronics, cable and small devices are still worth it tho ... my best angled USB-A/USB-C and full reversible USB-A/USB-Micro did cost me all together 6eur when a simple braided USB-A/USB-C would cost me 9chf at minima (proof, i got a Delock angled full reversible USB-A/USB-Micro half the size of the one i bought in Spain for 9.55chf )

I can spend up to $800 without duties so that would be a non issue for me (unless I am buying a high end GPU) but you should look at Germany. If I lived in Europe I would use Groovesland as the $40 Free shipping is really nice and they do have pretty good prices for the most part.

Swiss is overpriced but shipping is free no matter the order total price (although you do have a "small quantity" taxes of 9chf sometime)

i did order above 62.50chf on Aquatunning back in the days when i was doing a dual loop, but Aquatunning have the VAT adjusted on their Swiss site thus no taxes added
they were priced similarly to local etailer/retailer took 4 days more for shipping (5 days after payment) but they did have them in stock

also i should add that i do not even have the finances to afford a low end GPU even if a RX 6600 XT was priced half the Swiss price (between 398chf and 459chf) somewhere else i would still be too much (unless they have a "powerpay" equivalent which is a tiered monthly payment, with a minimal payment of 10% or higher each month )

I got a 5800 OEM off Ebay at reduced Price because someone tried playing Dumb claiming it was a 5800X. I spent $40 at Micro Center to get it tested to ensure the chip was not dead and a 5800 (not a 5600 with a different lid), the guy agreed to give me $100 back from $362, so I got the chip at $262 in November.

It's perfect, 3.4-4.6 vs 3.8-4.7 lol, only makes sense.

i do shop on digitec/galaxus and i have a brick'n mortar STEG near where i live ... tho Galaxus groupe have higher price than Brack/Microspot/Interdiscount most of the time and Brack offer monthly billing in 3 payment, Microspot/Interdiscount do Powerpay in "as much as you can but minima 10%" Galaxus group have a convenient 20day invoice but STEG is hum ... well i bought my current 1070 (5yrs ago for the wonderful price of 526chf /s ) with a 3 time payment ... but iirc they do not do it anymore

I know it is crazy they are doing that because they seem to be the only ones that have stock. Thankfully I got mine on backorder so I paid the $569 launch cost.

I think they have learned their lesson (for the most part). In Canada they are still the Go to to get certain parts.

I pretty much built two computers since 2020 and almost all of the parts came from newegg.ca. Luckily I have not had the same experience as the Americans have had. I did shop locally for my current main board, GPU, and the 16GB kit in my kids computer.
