Must have missed it, with the recent headlines getting a lot of posts re computex.

when people talk about just cores or just vram for gaming, what they are saying is "I have no clue to what I'm talking about". Its the overall performance of the part not just a single aspect of it

In short, core count (within reason) doesn't matter for gaming; what really matters is overall CPU performance. For example, if a quad-core processor existed that could deliver the same multi-core performance as the Ryzen 9 7950X, there's a good chance it would actually be the faster gaming CPU, as the individual cores would be significantly faster. With games mostly still dependent on a primary thread, this results in CPUs with strong single-core performance generally delivering the best gaming performance. This is also why the 7800X3D is a much faster gaming CPU than the 7950X.

16 cores 32 threads.................Cant think of many games that even touch 50% of those resources with massive differences in performance.

Zen6 is the step up in cores per CCD and with the non change of IO Die there isnt any scope for adding CCDs to the Ryzen Lineup currently.

So AMD have hit the nail on the head for the majority of PC users if Zen 5 is mostly 8 core/16HT. Not much point buying more unless you need them for other stuff.

I guess Intel might be right dropping HT too, reviews will tell that i guess.

HT cores are not cores, a 16/32 CPU is a 16 core CPU. Why do people count HT cores as if they are actual cores when they are not. So my initial post is right.

What people?
I never see HT being counted as cores. If anything, Intel's core counting can be more misleading... because while yes, e-cores are indeed physical cores, for gaming they don't make much difference and sometimes even lower performance, at least for now. You see them labeled as 16-cores or 24-cores, but those cores are not equal.

beamng.drive maybe. Can't think of anything else. But it's multithreaded physics sim probably can.

Also GTA V and I think many more games, I just haven't checked that with all the games I own..

Only exception would be something like UNREAL 5.4 engine which uses extra cores to stream shader cache.

A couple other games scale with cores but not by much and not enough to justify the cost difference also the 7900X3D is generally slower than the 7800X3D and I doubt it'll be any different with 9000 series.

I have to agree with AMD here... I really don't see the point of more than 16 cores for gaming PCs.
But there's also no reason to buy Zen 5 until we see what the X3D version does.
I can't imagine it selling well as long as the 7800X3D doesn't have a successor.

1 CCD limit for gaming.

Other CCD useful for pinning every other process onto though.

What would be more impactful is more than eight cores on a single CCD, faster IF/newer IO die (2000 MHz IF is no faster on Zen 4 AM5 than Zen 3 AM4, hence 1.5/1 not 1/1 ratio, or less latency penalty from cross CCD workloads. Doesn't matter if you have 64 cores from eight CCDs, still won't have better gaming performance than six or eight on a single CCD.

I wouldn't be surprised if Zen 6 gets 12-16 per CCD but I wouldn't put it past AMD to go to a hybrid arch with ZenC cores or whatever they calling them these days....

how would anyone know if it's yet to be released on PC?

maybe it scales past six maybe a 4c/8t runs it just fine. It need to be properly tested but I highly doubt its core dependent as opposed to performance dependent
