Over the years, we've seen multiple attempts at launching notebooks with dual displays, i.e. one on the outside and one on the inside of the lid. None have been particularly successful and there has never been a followup model from the manufacturers that have launched said products. At Touch Taiwan, InnoLux had a demo of a new take on the dual display laptop, where the company had managed to make both display panels a mere 4.5 mm thick. On top of the relative thinness of the two panels, both panels also featured touch and stylus support, although it might have been enough if the outer display had this, so a potential notebook could be used in tablet mode this way and like a regular notebook when flipped open.

InnoLux didn't specify the display pane size, but both panels have a 3:2 aspect ratio and a rather odd 1526 x 1024 resolution, with a contrast ratio of 1200:1. It appears that the displays are intended for the educational market for the time being, most likely for some overpriced Chromebooks that are being pitched to schools. That said, this is the best concept of a dual display laptop screen we've seen, as the thickness equals that of most regular laptop displays, so there's no extra bulk for additional display.

ASUS today launched the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED (UX9702), the 17.3-inch foldable OLED laptop. This Intel Evo -certified foldable laptop offers users two sizes of OLED display in one device: a large 4:3 17.3-inch 2.5K touchscreen that folds in the middle to create two seamless 3:2 12.5-inch 1920 by 1280 displays. When folded fully closed along the precision-engineered 180° hinge—which is tested to withstand over 30,000 open-and-close cycles—it's an ultra-compact and portable 12.5-inch device that's smaller than a sheet of photocopier paper. Multiple versatile usage modes—Desktop, Laptop (with Bluetooth keyboard), Laptop (with virtual keyboard), Tablet, Reader and Extended—are enabled by the folding design in conjunction with the full-size ASUS ErgoSense Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad, and each screen can additionally be split into multiple windows and the contents arranged, using the intelligent window-management feature in the ASUS ScreenXpert 3 and exclusive Mode Switcher apps. Despite its versatility and large screen size, the device weighs just 3.31 lb without the keyboard, or 3.97 lb with it.

The new Surface Laptop Studio features what Microsoft calls a boundary-pushing design, yet we felt like we'd seen the easel before. Lo and behold, Acer ConceptD 3 Ezel launched last year with a very similar design and HP launched the similar Spectre Folio in 2018. Not to belittle Microsoft here, as they have designed a much slicker hinge mechanism than Acer, while seemingly also improving upon the materials used and unlike HP's Spectre Folio, this is a "full fat" laptop and not a glorified tablet.

The Surface Laptop Studio is a strange looking machine, as it has an overhang, something I never expected to see on a laptop and although it appears to have been designed to allow for better cooling, there's just something about it that irks me. Yes, it makes it appear thinner than it really is and Microsoft uses the overhang to tuck away and charge the optional Surface Slim Pen 2 underneath, but it just looks odd for a lack of a better word. Oddities aside, it should be Microsoft's most powerful Intel powered laptop to date and it even packs a discrete NVIDIA GPU.

Huawei is reportedly preparing an unconventional high-resolution monitor under its MateView brand. Featuring an aspect-ratio of 3:2, the monitor is wider than 4:3 or 5:4, but "taller" than 16:9 or ultrawide ratios. The monitor features an "IPS-like" panel with 4500 x 3000 pixels native resolution, support for 10-bpc color (1.07 billion colors), and a refresh-rate of 90 Hz. You also get DisplayHDR 400 and HDR10 support. Pulling something like this off will presumably take inputs such as HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4 to muster the bandwidth needed for 4500 x 3000 @ 90 Hz with 10-bpc. A nifty feature with this monitor is its stand, which doubles up as a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad. Huawei is reportedly preparing to launch this monitor on May 16.

Microsoft has listed a second-generation approach to their original Surface Hub, the innovative conference room computer built for collaborative work scenarios that was met with considerable success. That success, of course, stems from the integration of a whiteboard/computing solution, that brings interactivity and computing to usually less... techy collaborations.

According to Microsoft, the idea behind the Surface Hub 2 is simple: "A new culture of work is emerging. One where unlocking the power of the team has never been more important. I see it with our team daily. People coming together, creating together. Making products stronger through collaboration, whether they're in the same room or separated by thousands of miles." And Microsoft may have put in some of the improvements to do just that.
