Apple Says Cloud Gaming Services Like Google Stadia and Microsoft xCloud Violate App Store Guidelines

Cloud gaming is the next step in mobile gaming, with services like Microsoft project xCloud aiming to bring AAA titles right to your mobile phone. Microsoft has already been testing its xCloud application on Android and iOS devices for some time, and the application was supposed to launch sometime in September. However, it seems like Microsoft is only going to serve the customers on Android, as Apple says that these types of applications violate App Store guidelines. This doesn't only apply to xCloud, but also Google's Stadia gaming platform. When developer uploads application to App Store for iOS, the application goes through a review by Apple, for security reason and for Apple to check if it meets its guidelines.

Being that xCloud and Stadia are types of applications which offer a way to access many more applications (games in this case), this is against Apple's policy as they can't control the applications these services offer.

Cougar Intros the Ultra-Slim Vantar AX Gaming Keyboard with Scissor Switches

Cougar today introduced the Vantar AX, a unique gaming keyboard that should please those who also use their PC for extended typing/coding sessions. The keyboard uses scissor-type switches that can be found in premium notebooks. Another selling point is its height of just 15 mm (including keycaps), compared to most keyboards that can be over 35 mm tall. The Vantar AX offers a full 106-keyset with flat, translucent keycaps that have zonal RGB backlighting. The electronics support 19-key rollover and anti-ghosting. It all comes together in a matte-silver, CNC-milled, aluminium unibody resembling MacBooks. The Cougar Vantar AX measures 445 mm x 127 mm x 15 mm (WxDxH), weighing about 626 g. The company didn't reveal pricing.

Razer Intros Cynosa V2 Gaming Keyboard

Razer today introduced the Cynosa V2, its new value-oriented gaming keyboard succeeding the original Cynosa Chroma from 2017. The Cynosa line from Razer represents value-oriented membrane-type gaming keyboards. The new Cynosa V2 is priced at USD $59.99, and should go on sale from July 31. The new Cynosa V2 comes with individually-configurable RGB backlit keys (whereas the original Cynosa Chroma has lighting zones).

Razer also updated a handful other things over the original. The electronics supports full N-key rollover and 1000 Hz polling rate, and can interface with Razer Synapse 3 software (for individual key color and macro re-mapping). Other changes include new media shortcut keys (which the original lacks), ergonomic refinements, spill resistance, and improved USB cable management (winding grooves).

Herman Miller And Logitech G Enhance The Embody Chair To Meet Needs Of Pro Gamers And Streamers

Logitech G, a brand of Logitech, and Herman Miller took a first step into the world of seating ergonomics for gamers, streamers, and esports athletes today when they unveiled a series of high performance gaming furniture and accessories, including the Embody Gaming Chair, the industry's first truly ergonomic chair.

Together, the two companies spent nearly two years studying esport pros and players around the globe to understand their needs. "Prior to the in-depth research we did, we knew many gamers loved our current offering as we are constantly rated highly in almost every gamer product review," said Tim Straker, Chief Marketing Officer for Herman Miller. "The main feedback we received was they wanted more variety."

CORSAIR Introduces MM150 Ultra-thin Gaming Mouse Pad

The iCUE NEXUS was no doubt the bigger launch from CORSAIR yesterday, so much so that we nearly missed another product launched by the company. The new MM150 adds to CORSAIR's peripherals and accessories lineup, offering an extremely thin (0.5 mm) tear-resistant polycarbonate surface for those preferring such low profile mouse pads. It can be classified as a "medium" size pad, measuring in at 350 x 260 mm, and has an anti-skid silicone base to keep it in place during gaming. There is also a large CORSAIR logo as part of the forefront aesthetic, and the MM150 can be purchased for $15 from the CORSAIR webstore.

Razer Launches Miniaturized DeathAdder V2 Gaming Mouse

Razer has worked on a variant of its famous and well-respected DeathAdder V2 gaming mouse. The aptly-named DeathAdder V2 Mini essentially takes (almost) all features from the original DeathAdder V2 revision and just shrinks it down to a smaller footprint for people with smaller hands than the norm. Dimensions for the Mini version stand at 4.5" (L) (11.43 cm) x 2.2" (W) (5.58 cm) x 1.5" (H) (3.81 cm) compared to the original's 5" (L) (12.7 cm) x 2.43" (W) (6.17 cm) x 1.68" (H) (4.26 cm) for the original DeathAdder V2. The Mini thus underwent a diet of sorts, coming in 20 grams lighter than its predecessor at just 62 grams.

ASUS ROG Claims Leading Gaming Laptop Market Share Spot

The gaming laptop market has grown significantly in recent years and ASUS ROG is capitalizing on this growth releasing several popular laptops across the entire price spectrum. ASUS claims to now hold the largest market share for any company in the gaming laptop segment with a global market share of 22.6 percent. This data was gathered in April 2020 and means that almost one in four gaming laptops purchased was an ASUS ROG model. This market success was likely thanks to their recent innovative devices such as the 300Hz Zephyrus S17 and the Ryzen 4000 Powered Zephyrus G14 which were both firsts in the gaming laptop market.

Mindshunter Announces Zephyr Gaming Mouse With a Built-in Cooling Fan

Mindshunter has made available ordering for its upcoming Zephyr mouse - a PC peripheral rodent that features a built-in cooling fan to, quote, "prevent sweaty palms". The Zephyr weighs just 68 g on account of its palm rest being highly perforated, which not only allows air from its built-in fan to cool your hands, but also reduces the mouse's weight (Mindshunters says its geometric design doesn't compromise rigidity or durability of the palm rest).

Sennheiser Communications A/S Gaming Division Splits Off To become EPOS

Sennheiser is well regarded in the audio space and has released several popular GSP series gaming headsets such as the GSP 670. The Alienware AW410K Gaming Keyboard will launch August 4th and will cost $129.

American FDA Approves Video Game as ADHD Treatment, Makes it Available as a Prescription

With debates around the nature of video games' influence on psyches and behavior usually being surrounded with violence-related claims, it is certainly refreshing to see something like this happening. The American FDA (Federal Drug Administration) has recently permitted marketing of the first specifically-developed video game designed with the intention of serving as a treatment for ADHD. Under the slogan "it's time to play your medicine", the game, EndeavorRx (AKL-T01), is being marketed for children between the ages of eight and 12. It was designed to "to directly target and activate neural systems through the presentation of sensory stimuli and motor challenges to improve cognitive functioning."

The FDA has issued this permit on the basis of five different studies involving more than 600 children diagnosed with ADHD, where they were encouraged to play this particular video game. Following the test results, a measurable decrease or even dissipation of attention deficit levels in a number of ADHD-related benchmarks were seen. However, not all is green on this side of the pasture: the FDA in its approval also mentioned some verifiable, but not serious, adverse effects after the children were exposed to the EndeavorRx-based therapy, such as frustration, headache, dizziness, emotional reaction, and aggression. The FDA themselves say that the clinical trial results do not suggest this videogame prescription could be an alternative to ADHD drug-specific prescriptions, however. But it could be a first step between an ADHD diagnosis and drug-based treatments. Check out a video of the game after the break.

Sony Showcases Two PlayStation 5 Console Versions, Platform-Exclusive Next Generation Games

Sony today via a livestream finally showcased their hardware design for the next generation of consoles, and let's get one thing right out of the way: the company will be launching two console versions. This is a relatively unexpected twist - unexpected, because if anything, we were expecting two new consoles from Microsoft (remember the Lockhart rumors?), not from Sony. However, the PS5 will be eventually launching in two versions - a mainline console, and an all-digital spinoff.

For now, details are all but absent - the only thing we know for sure is that the digital version of the PS5 won't be carrying a 4K BluRay player. That will undoubtedly reduce the final pricing of the digital version compared to the mainline console. It's unclear whether this console has some sort of streaming integration with a service such as PS Now, offloading games processing to the cloud. If it doesn't, though, and if the only hardware difference between the two versions is the presence of the 4K BluRay player, we're likely talking about a $100/€100 difference - tops. Remember that the Xbox One S, which currently retails for around $250, too possesses a 4K Blu Ray player, so there's only so much that can be recouped from cutting that particular hardware piece. As you might've guessed by now, pricing is still being manifested as if it were a unicorn.

LG's 48-inch OLED Gaming TV with G-SYNC Goes on Sale This Month

LG is preparing to launch its latest addition to the gaming lineup of panels and this time it goes big. Preparing to launch this month is LG's 48-inch OLED Gaming TV with 120 HZ refreshing and G-SYNC support. To round up the impressive feature set, LG has priced this panel at $1499, which is a pricey but a tempting buy. Featuring 1 ms response time and low input lag, the 48CX TV is designed for gaming and fits into NVIDIA's Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD) philosophy. Interestingly, the TV uses LG's a9 Gen3 AI processor which does content upscaling so everything can look nice and crisp. Ai is used to "authentically upscale lower resolution content, translating the source to 4K's 8.3+ million pixels. The technology is so good, you might mistake non-4K for true 4K".

NVIDIA Investors Claw Back at Company, Claiming $1 Billion Mining GPU Revenue Hidden Away in the Gaming Division

NVIDIA investors have recently filed a suit against the company, claiming that NVIDIA wrongfully detailed its revenue indicators between departments. The main point of contention here is that investors claim NVIDIA knowingly obfuscated the total value of the crypto market boom (and subsequent bust) from investors, thus painting a picture of the company's outlook than was different from reality (making demand for the Gaming division look higher than it was in reality) and exposing them to a different state of affairs and revenue gains than they expected. The investors say that NVIDIA knew that a not insignificant number of its graphics cards sold between 2017 and 2018 was being bought-up solely for the purpose of crypto mining, and that the company knew this (and even marketed GPUs specifically for that purpose).

The crypto mining boom had miners gobbling up all NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards that they could, with both companies seemingly increasing production to meet the crypto mining bubble demand. However, due to the economics of crypto mining, it was clear that any profits derived from this bubble would ultimately open the door to an explosive logistics problem, as miners offloaded their graphics cards to the second-hand market, which could ultimately harm NVIDIA's financial book. Of course, one can look at NVIDIA's revenue categories at the time to see that crypto would hardly fit neatly into either the Gaming, Professional Visualization, Datacenter, Auto, or OEM & IP divisions.

GDP Win Max is an 8-inch Gaming Laptop with Intel's Ice Lake CPU

GDP, a company specializing in the creation of tiny laptops designed for gaming, has just announced the latest addition to its family of tiny notebooks - the GDP Win Max gaming laptop. This model is an 8-inch gaming laptop packing a lot for its size. On the outside, this laptop is equipped with joysticks on both sides, so there is even an option to directly play games using these joysticks instead of the built-in keyboard. The display of the device is an IPS screen that features a 1280×800 resolution, resulting in a 16:10 aspect ratio of the display. What's more important, however, is what is under the hood of the small body.

It is powered by Intel's latest Ice Lake CPU - the Intel Core i5-1035G7. Being a 4 core/ 8 threaded CPU with Gen11 Iris Plus 940 graphics it is accompanied by 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 512 GB SSD. GDP has provided some of the benchmark results of this configuration which you can check out below, however, please take these with a grain of salt. As far as I/O goes, this small laptop is rather well equipped with plenty of ports. There is one Thunderbolt 3 port to connect to external GPU is it is needed. There is one USB Type-C 3.1 Gen2 port and two USB Type-A 3.1 Gen1 ports for the connection of external peripherals. If you wish to connect the laptop to the outside screen, there are options of HDMI, USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3 ports for connection. A welcome addition to I/O is the inclusion of the RJ45 connector, meaning that if you have access to ethernet you can easily plug it into this laptop.

COUGAR Releases the Ranger Gaming Sofa for Royal Gaming Comfort

COUGAR today announced the release of a gaming-styled sofa (and yes, now you can believe it isn't a typo or this editor simply mixing home furniture concepts up in his head). The Ranger has been designed, according to COUGAR, for smartphone and console gaming, and features a reclining mechanism (95º to 160º) that allows you to take a quick nap whilst your teammates do all the hard work through that raid or pesky dungeon you've already gone over and over again. In this chair, you're royalty, after all.

The frame is surely made of viking-smithed steel (COUGAR only states steel, which is surely a technical oversight from someone having written the description in a sofa other than the Ranger). The material is high-quality, breathable, heavenly leather with a real diamond-cut pattern. There's lumbar support, a headrest, and a footrest. Sadly, there's no support for that 12-year single-malt whiskey you've been saving up for such a gaming-oriented occasion, which seems like a slight oversight. This Ranger doesn't feature the usual mobility associated with that particular gaming class, though: at 700 mm width, 980 mm depth, 1,025 mm height, and 31 Kg of pure, comfortable mass, it won't be a good companion for either your wallet (shipping costs) or an accessory to prove your supremacy in battle, to be carried over by a page. One-year warranty and an April 22nd shipping date have been given, and the Ranger should be available for $280.

Noblechairs Working on Bethesda-licensed Gaming Chairs

Noblechairs, the well-known manufacturer of PC accessories and better known for the quality of their gaming chairs, has announced that they are working in partnership with Bethesda to adapt that publisher's franchises to branded products. The agreement will see Noblechairs designing products around the Fallout and Doom franchises for release in 2020.

Other game franchises will follow in this adaptation (wondering what they'll be doing with the steampunk design of Dishonored). It's currently unknown what special features (if any) these chairs will include, or if it's simply a matter of aesthetics. Pricing hasn't yet been shared, but since these will likely be designed around Noblechairs' existing products, you should take a look at that pricing and then add some leeway for licensing costs.
