CM Storm Sonuz Gaming Headset Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The CM Storm sells for $79
  • Comfortable
  • Durable design
  • Good price performance ratio
  • Tweakable tonality
  • Quality cable
  • Good sound stage coherency
  • Midrange does not sound that natural
  • Not the most neutral headset for competitive gaming
  • Ear pads slightly too shallow (tip of ear touches driver base)
CM Storm's Sonuz is a good headset for the price and is, for the casual FFA gamer, close to perfect with stock configurations. The sound stage is coherent and makes it quite easy to tell from where an enemy is coming. It is, in fact, better than the 5.1 ROCCAT Kave headset we tested a while ago. The bass is a bit over-emphasized with the stock foam inside the ear cups, and removing the foam brightens up the headset, allowing you to tweak the sound to your liking. The headset also responds well to equalizing, which will allow you to dial it in for your favorite games.

The CS Storm Sonuz is one of the most comfortable headsets we have come across in a long time. It is light, has generous padding, and stays in place even if you shake your head violently. CM Storm almost nails comfort perfectly with this headset, if it were not for the slightly too shallow pads.
