Value and Conclusion

  • The Cooler Master Mobius 120 fan is not currently listed on the Cooler Master US or EU stores although it can be had for ~$29.99 from retailers including Amazon.com as of the date of this review.
  • Good performance in hybrid scenarios of variable airflow restriction
  • Does well from a performance/noise basis even as a radiator fan
  • Zero RPM mode available
  • Linear RPM, noise, and airflow profiles
  • Minimal sample variation
  • No bearing noise in use
  • Good build quality and clean looks
  • Quite expensive per fan
  • Bested by less expensive fans for watercooling
  • Hard to actually purchase in most countries
I've lost count of the number of times Cooler Master has sent me products to review—keyboards, fans, coolers—only to find out they are either not being sold in the US or have been held back for firmware updates that never came. The company is large enough to have regional headquarters and clearly they all seem to do their own thing to where it's unnecessarily hard for consumers to even know what products are going to be sold where. Take this very fan for example, which was being sampled to the press in various countries along with its RGB variant which, incidentally enough, is not only far more accessible for purchase but costs less than this non-RGB version more often than not. I am sure the marketing and logistics departments at Cooler Master know more than I do and certainly have access to more data, but I remain frustrated by simple things like this and need to make sure the company reads this first when they eventually click on this review and go straight to the conclusion page as most readers will.

I do wish more countries could readily purchase the Mobius 120—especially directly from Cooler Master, given pricing from most retailers seems to be inflated and/or sold via third-party sellers. It is a decent fan that scales reasonably well across a variety of use cases inside your PC. The 5-year warranty paired with a sealed, quiet bearing is nice, as is the competitive performance/noise seen on the previous page even in circumstances where it's no doubt being tested beyond its sweet spot when it comes to operating in airflow restriction regimes. I would not be surprised to see the Mobius 120 fare even better as a case fan or on an air cooler thus, especially given how it already bested some other hybrid fans. But $30/fan is hard to swallow for this and things only get worse when you look at other retailers in the US, UK, and Europe, assuming you can even purchase them. There is no excuse for a large brand the size of Cooler Master to have these issues and I also can't recommend people purchase the Mobius 120 at this price point. If you end up finding them at, say, $20 then things would be more interesting.
