Fan Noise

Whoa! That's most impressive. The Corsair VX450W is so silent it plays in a completely different league. When I connected it to our noise testing setup and powered it on it was so quiet, I checked if it was actually running. We can see that with higher load the fan gets slightly faster, this is important to ensure the PSU will not overheat.

Value and Conclusion

  • You can find the Corsair CMPSU-450VX online for around $75 which makes this a very affordable solution for any system in that class.
  • Very Quiet
  • Affordable
  • Extremely High efficiency
  • Cables sleeved
  • Stable
  • 5 Year warranty
  • 450W may not be enough for your needs
  • Not modular
  • Only one PCI-E power connector
When I first opened the package and read "450W PSU" I was very sceptical if this unit could perform - and I was completely wrong. Certainly you should not power a GeForce 8800 GTX SLI rig with it, but you probably knew that. For a normal PC with a single graphics card it is absolutely sufficient. The attractive price of $75 makes this a great deal when building a new system.
What I found to be most impressive with the Corsair VX450W is that it is extremely quiet. In our testing it lead the noise charts by quite a margin over all other PSUs tested so far. That's why I will use it in my daily work system.
It is not only quiet but also very efficient, claiming our number one efficiency spot with over 83%. So aside from having a quiet, stable, cost efficient system you are also helping to save the environment. Should the unit break some day, Corsair's 5 year warranty will ensure you get a replacement fast.
