Value & Conclusion

  • The Diamond Stealth X550 is priced around $79.00 US and is a few dollars higher than other cards in its class.
  • Good overclocking Capability.
  • Uses GDDR2 Memory.
  • Includes software needed to create a Multimedia system.
  • Quiet fan.
  • Smaller footprint for tight cases.
  • Needs something added to bundle besides Netscape.
  • No temperature chip.
  • Priced high in its class
I'd have to say I didn't expect much from an entry level card but after reminding myself what the card is intended for, the Diamond X550 performed well. As you look around you'll see most of the X550 graphic cards only have DDR1 and come in 128 MB and 256 MB flavors with Diamond opting to go with the DDR2 w/ 256 MB. The Diamond Stealth X550 overclocked rather well and could certainly hit 600 MHz on the GPU if one was into voltage mods. Again keeping ones perspective and realizing the RV370 is not a powerhouse and is pointed toward a specific niche market.
Now the requirements needed for a quiet Multimedia system can be met with the Diamond Stealth X550 and Diamond may want to offer something else in its bundle besides the free Netscape CD, but even still most users tend to have their own preference when it comes to the software they want to run. I understand that for cost reasons Diamond decided not to install a temperature chip but with users cramming everything into tiny cramped cases for Multimedia systems one would be in order for these cards. Yet taken to another level it would have been even more appealing to an HTPC system builder if the card was made half height.
