I wanted to run the Diamond Viper X800 GTO through its paces with a few more cards in its range more like a GTO² and another PCI-E card besides an X1900. However reviewing the benchmarks, the overclocked GTO would perform close to a GTO² that's not modded to 16 pipes. It was very close to the X800 Pro in terms of speed which would make it a candidate for those upgrading to PCI-E and not wanting to shell out big bucks on the video card after making a motherboard purchase.
The card performed as well as could be expected for a 12 pipe card. After seeing the half length cooler I was surprised it did as well as it did. Still it ran as well as the stock full size HSF that we have seen on the 16 piped cards, hitting 70°C when overclocking is nothing new. However with a better cooler we saw the card overclock higher and after checking out the core voltage it was running at the stock 1.40V. Had the card been set to 1.45V we would have seen 600 MHz overclock for sure. Diamonds needs to work on the bundle some but they did still provide a game in the box in which some do not. Updating the Bonus software would enhance the Diamond Viper X800GTO that much more.
