Assembly

It is always best to have another person assist you with a gaming chair's assembly. The user manual is usually a bit like a pocket book, but this time around, it just consisted of a single page. However, the right way to start here is by flipping the five-star base around to install the caster wheels. In order to insert the wheels, a bit of pressure has to be applied for the wheels to go into their openings. Once the wheels are in place, the five-star base needs to be turned the right way up again. A red plastic stripe - of which there are five - is then inserted into every opening but the one in the middle. Subsequently, the hydraulics (gas lift) need to be put into this center opening. The dust cover shroud goes over the gas lift after that. The seat's base has to be turned upside down now. Underneath it are four bolts that need to be removed with the Allen key DXRacer provides. The tilt mechanism attaches to the metal bars with the knob pointing towards the front of the seat's base. The bolts now go back into their respective spots, which secures the tilt mechanism. After having secured the tilt mechanism, the seat's base goes on top of the gas lift. The two plastic levers that are included are supposed to cover the metal handles under the seat's base and can be installed last.

The installation of the backrest is next. Two bolts are on each side of the backrest and need to be removed with the Allen key. However, something unexpected happened as these were removed. Once the bolts and their washers were removed, the chair's upholstery stretched, which had big gaps appear between the chair's frame and the upholstery cover. As such, while removing the bolts, two along with their washers fell in between a gap. A needle and nose plier saved the day! We would have been in trouble had we had nothing but the Allen key on hand. That said, DXRacer does include an additional bolt in the bundle. Finally, the metal brackets of the seat's base need to be aligned with the openings on the backrest's upholstery.

All four bolts have to be placed back into their original positions in order to secure the backrest. The last step of assembly is to insert the two plastic bits on top of the metal brackets.

Initial Impression

The Racing Pro R131-NR is the first chair from the popular DXRacer brand we are reviewing. We were thus looking forward to this one's arrival with great anticipation. Once we had opened the package, the black backrest with two red stripes was the first thing we noticed. The chair is reinforced with a steel frame and consists of a matte PU upholstery. The backrest is tall and seems narrow enough along with the seat's base. Both the backrest and seat's base have contoured edges. We shall also test the chair to see whether it confines users at all.

The PU cover tries to imitate the look of real leather, but is really soft and has a napped finish; it almost feels like suede. However, black is not the only color this chair sports. Our sample uses a combination of two colors; it is mostly black with red geometrical shapes all over it. This chair definitely belongs in a gaming spot.
