Introduction

I would like to thank G.Skill for providing the review sample.

About G.Skill
Most of you probably know G.Skill and their memory. The company is one of the few still focusing on memory products in form of RAM or SSD instead of diversifying into numerous directions. G.Skill was founded in 1989 and their mission statement sums their intend up quite nicely:
We are here to provide superior memory products and satisfactory services in order to keep pace with our customers' growing needs, and help our customers in adding value to their products. And we pledge we will continue to do so and enable both sides to obtain significant competitive advantages in the market segments.
G.Skill was kind enough to send us one of their efficient ECO kits, which only require 1.35V to achieve 1600 MHz with CL7-8-7-24. It will be interesting to see what scaling attributes this kit brings to the table.

Specifications:
  • Speed: DDR3-1600 (PC3 12800)
  • CAS Latency: 7-8-7-24
  • Capacity: 4GB (2GB x 2) or 8GB (2GB x 4)
  • Voltage: 1.35 Volts
  • PCB: N/A
  • Registered/Unbuffered: Unbuffered
  • Error Checking: Non-ECC
  • Type: 240-pin DIMM
  • Warranty: Lifetime
Interestingly the G.Skill website does not mention the PCB layers used for the ECO kit. A total of six layers is usually found in performance kits and it is said that the more layers there are, the better.

Packaging

This dual channel kit ships in a simple, clear plastic packaging. Both modules are clearly visible and the front mentions the word "ECO" in big red letters up top. Turning the whole thing around, we have a bit of marketing text along with a sticker on which the actual specifications of the memory are printed. All in all, a very boring box. From a marketing standpoint a brown cardboard box with color prints and a window may go the extra mile to convey the "ECO" aspect of this kit.
