Value & Conclusion

  • The 16 GB (2x 8 GB) G.Skill Trident Z (F4-3200C16D-16GTZ) 3200 MHz DDR4 kit should retail for $160-$180.
  • Fresh new look
  • Well-designed heatsink; both in esthetics and function
  • 16 GB in two sticks
  • New heatsink has "options" for looks
  • Line-up includes speeds of up to 4133 MHz, available now
  • Wide compatibility with modern Intel Z170-based motherboards
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Affordable pricing
  • Red, while popular, does not suit all motherboards.
  • No details on other color bars to add to the top to match themed builds
  • No temperature monitoring
  • As is inherent with all memory, limited gains are seen from higher speeds
We've all seen pictures of these sticks prior to their launch, and there are those of us fortunate enough to have already snatched up a set on sale. The Trident Z series from G.Skill really sets itself apart from any other kit on the market right now thanks to the new heatsink design. Once you feel the quality in these sticks, there is no denying that they might be worth a few added dollars.

With speeds well over 4000 MHz at retailers right this moment, there can be little doubt which set I'm going to be after for my own personal builds. I want high-clocked sticks that look great, and nothing else any other brand has matches these looks at the moment. Everything else out there re-hashes old designs, while G.Skill is out for the kill with both the Ripjaws V and now the Trident Z kits.

This particular set, clocked at 3200 MHz, is rather modest. The large 16 GB size is ready for nearly anything any high-end gamer wants to throw at it, and with current DDR4 pricing only recently taking a drop, getting a 16 GB set of DDR4 isn't going to top $200. Although performance results are a bit varied with this kit compared to other kits I have tested, the added CPU-GPU related performance is unmistakable, and this comes at a critical time when DirectX 12 titles are starting to poke about, promising to take advantage of added CPU-related things. While how all that might pan out is yet to be determined, these sticks and their quality good looks are not. I wanted to give these sticks a 10 out of 10, but red, eh? Bought a set and need some help setting it up? Let me know in the forums!!
