File Station

File Station gives DSM users access to shared NAS folders over the Internet. Launching two or more File Stations also allows you to manage all DiskStation data by dragging and dropping between different File Stations.

Photo Station

Photo Station is an online photo album with an integrated blog. It makes sharing of photos and videos over the Internet a breeze. The package also offers support for all popular social networking sites, and you can browse photos saved to your NAS via a major browser or mobile device. Photo Station supports all popular image formats and most video formats—users can upload up to 100 files or a total of 2 GB at a time, a limitation that will most likely pass most users by unnoticed.

Audio Station

Audio Station is a web-based audio application. It gives you access to Internet radio or the music stored on your NAS, and allows you to play music over your computer and iOS/Android device. Audio Station also supports streaming to Bluetooth and AirPlay devices. Its embedded music player even supports the creation of a personal library for each individual account.

Video Station

Synology says Video Station to be an ideal organizer for your movie collections, TV Shows, home videos, and various TV recordings. Use Video Station to watch videos on your PC, DLNA or AirPlay devices, and iOS/Android/Windows smartphones and tablets. You can even create custom libraries if the default ones don't cover your needs and assign access permissions to them, and have the ability to live stream and record digital TV programs by using a suitable USB DTV dongle.

Media Center

The Media Center application allows you to stream multimedia files located in specified NAS folders on DLNA/UPnP compatible devices. You can also add more specified folders.


CPU and RAM usage was, as you can see in the above screenshots, kept at very low levels even while we were streaming HD content.

Download Station

Download Station is a web-based download application. It allows you to download files off the Internet through BT, FTP, HTTP, NZB, and eMule without the need of a client PC. In other words, the files are downloaded directly to the specified NAS folder.


Download Station allows you to download files from various file-hosting sites. You can also search for torrent files through the system's default search engines, or those you add through the BT search function.

Cloud Station

Easily synchronize your files up across multiple systems by using Cloud Station. Files will then be locally available via web and Cloud Station folders. The maximum file size for synchronized files is 10 GB, and there is also a mobile application, DS cloud, to synchronize files up with mobile devices.

Antivirus Essential

Synology's Package Center includes the Antivirus Essential application, which is free and protects the DiskStation from potential viral threats. It features live updates, a quarantine zone, scheduled scans, and an event log. Another antivirus application, McAfee, is also available, but it isn't free.
