Value and Conclusion

  • The 16 GB (2x 8 GB) V-Color PRISM II RGB 3600 MHz kit is available for around US$88.99.
  • Solid performance
  • Unique look
  • Great attention to detail
  • RGB not for everyone
The design of the V-Color PRISM II RGB is well thought out and unique. The build quality certainly lends the kit a premium feel, and the sleek packaging amplifies that impression. The heat spreader is simple, but attractive, and the near-mirror silver finish will look great on builds with lots of nickel-plated copper.

For RGB LEDs, the V-Color PRISM II RGB has a bold implementation with the pastel-colored diffusers. This gives the PRISM II RGB dramatic flair even when the system is powered off, and the colors are light enough not to be tinged by the diffuser when the LEDs are active. The V-Color PRISM II RGB has good stock lighting effects for those who eschew extra software, and good software support for those who want it. This kit is also compatible with the lighting software from all four major motherboard vendors.

V-Color didn't sacrifice performance in the name of fashion either as the V-Color PRISM II RGB performed well in testing. For overclocking, the V-Color PRISM II RGB proved to have a fair margin of overclocking headroom, reaching 4000 MHz stable with my ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 7 and Intel Core i9-9900K combo. That's a good result, but my Ryzen testing was even more fruitful. The V-Color PRISM II RGB achieved 4200 MHz with the stock XMP timings on my MSI MEG X570 ACE paired with a Ryzen 5 3600X. While I was not able to get the timings as tight as I would like at the 3600 MHz sweet spot, I did manage significant gains over the XMP settings.

Finally, we come to the price. The V-Color PRISM II RGB comes in at a promotional price of US$88.99. Still, that is more than reasonable for this specification even without the great build quality and unique aesthetic the PRISM II provides. If you have been looking for a sensibly priced DDR4 kit with a bit more flair than the standard kit aesthetic, I would definitely recommend giving the V-Color PRISM II RGB a look.
