Xtrfy MZ1 Review - Zy's Rail

On-device settings

Compared to the M4 and M42, Xtrfy significantly expanded the on-board configuration options on the MZ1. The concept is simple: Adjustments are made either through button combinations or with the top button next to the scroll wheel, whose function varies depending on the current position of the slider at the bottom of the mouse. If set to the far left position, RGB lighting effects can be cycled through. The next position to the right controls polling rate (125, 500, or 1000 Hz). The next one is for swapping between two pre-defined LOD levels (1 or 2.5 mm). Lastly, with the slider moved all the way to the right, the top button acts as the F11 button on the keyboard. By setting it to F11 in-game, any in-game bind can thus be mapped to the top button. Xtrfy will also provide a firmware which changes F11 to PGDWN for cases where F11 is already bound. Irrespective of the current slider position, main button debounce time can be adjusted through a button combination.

Lighting

The MZ1 has three zones for RGB lighting: the Xtrfy logo at the back, scroll wheel, and an LED strip looping around the front. Using the dedicated lighting button, one can cycle through a select number of pre-defined effects. These are Rainbow (default), Single Color Breathe, Single Color Permanent, Color Cycle, Single Color Pulse, Color Cycle Pulse, Rainbow Pulse, Color Cycle Revolve on Click, Single Color Flicker, and, of course, Off. Furthermore, it is possible to adjust the brightness (by holding the lighting button and one side button simultaneously), speed (by holding the lighting button and the left button at the same time), and color for the Single Color modes (by holding the lighting button and the right button simultaneously). Resetting from the selection to the factory defaults is done by pressing the left, middle, and right clicks for five seconds until a red light flashes. The MZ1 will have then been reset to its factory defaults.

Color accuracy and vibrancy are excellent throughout. Here's a short demonstration video in which I go through all of the available lighting effects. Please note that the flickering visible in the video is merely a recording artifact:
