The pad was tested with laser and optical mice. While some may still use an old fashion mouse ball, it will certainly not be in a gaming environment where mice and mouse pads have become an important asset. The following mice were used to test the Zykon P3 mouse pad:
- Logitech MX Revolution
- Zykon M1
- Logitech MX518
Surface
The surface of the P3 is certainly different than most other pads. Zykon has chosen a very fine texture cloth which makes for some very smooth gaming. All three mice work perfectly on the pad. As mentioned before the company's own M3 we reviewed earlier works best on the P3 - hands down.
Size
Another very positive surprise for low sensitivity gamers is the large size. It is larger than any other cloth pad I had the pleasure of testing up to this point. The only exception is the Ripper XXL, which is meant to go across your whole desk. While the overall area works well for the afore mentioned low sensitivity gamer, any other will find themselves wondering what to do with the large dimension of the mouse pad. Zykon offers smaller pads for such gamers, but none of them have the same built as the P3. So if you need a smaller cloth pad, you will be out of luck and are forced to look elsewhere.
Thickness
The foam underlining makes this pad thick and heavy. If you have been using such a pad up to now, you should feel right at home. Gamers moving from a hard plastic gaming surface to the P3 should notice the softness right away. You may want to get used to this type of surface before competing with it at an event. The edges of the pad make a sturdy impression, but do not seem as clean cut as other such surfaces. This could mean that you will see flossing on the edges sooner than later, but only time will tell. The adhesive holding the cloth and foam together is very strong, which may in turn extend the life time of the P3. The thickness also makes the mouse pad rather difficult to roll up tight. Your best choice would be to keep the original plastic tube for transportation.
