Homefront Sequel to be Given the Crytek High Quality Graphics Treatment

Homefront creator KAOS studios shut its doors in the summer, leaving the sequel without a developer - and players of the cliffhanger ending of the first game well, hanging. However, publisher THQ has hired Crysis 2 developer Crytek to develop the sequel (Homefront 2?) which is expected to be out in 2014 for PC and console platforms. This is perhaps unsurprising, as Crytek recently made a very impressive DX11 upgrade for Crysis 2, as reported by TechPowerUp (with video) so this appointment is likely to make the next Homefront visually exciting at least and will do its bit to help keep up the graphics quality of games written for the PC. I'm looking forward to their high quality DX11 graphics that will push our PC's to the limits and once more give us a reason for upgrading to the latest hardware. They now just need to concentrate on making the gameplay as good as those graphics.

Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ:
Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry's best talent. Homefront's unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek's industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we're supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.
And Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek:
We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ. We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It's really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.

Huh! I'm surprised there's going to be a sequel. I didn't think this game was very popular, but obviously they seem to be making some money out of it.

I got Homefront, it's decent. I got other games to keep me occupied for now though. I'll have to revisit it sometime soon.

Not too sure if I'm excited about Crytek deving the sequel though.

Id rather they concentrated on making it a compelling experience and if they plan to release it in 2014 then they do have the time to make it a great experience rather than a polished turd.

I enjoyed Homefront a lot. Storyline was good and the homages to Red Dawn were clear in it. But this isn't what people were expecting. They heard he was on the story so they expected a Red Dawn video game which Homefront wasn't. Which is a shame despite it being a decent plot. It really could have been made much more had they just let that author really go nuts with it. Instead it turned into a mix of that early on then jumped to the big scale city retaking when all people wanted was to be Wolverines.

Multiplayer was good too. Never had I played a game which utilized UAV weaponry so well. But the trouble was it attracted a lot of MW people. They all tried to play it like MW when HF wasn't meant to be. Its more closer to BF gameplay than MW with more of a focus on using your unmanned vehicles well. Ton of people raged about snipers and such but never could figure out how to use their tools to get them. So Kaos tweaks it (nerfed the heck out of it), then MP gets ruined. Turns more into a MW rambofest.

Honestly I gave up on HF after the first patch. Game was so ruined that I just stayed in BC2. Hopefully Crytek can make it really happen the way it should have been.

It won't stop that game from being painfully generic, boring, and inconsistently buggy.

claylomaxBut it was too short ...
I agree with claylomax, it seems like now if a game isn't cod (and it's a fps) it just dies out...(on the xbox/ps3 anyway) I don't think you can go on there and get in a game that doesn't have someone from japan with the worse host ever and a bunch of people speaking mexican in the lobby... it seems that that's the problem with all shooters now. People just go back to what they know because they don't want to learn a new game..

Overall it was a great game, it had some problems, but making the graphics better isn't going to solve them.
