Acer Enters Thin Client Market With New Veriton N Series

Acer America today announced its entry into the thin client market with a new commercial offering, the Acer Veriton N Series. The new thin and rich clients provide simplified manageability and energy-efficiency in a secure, space-saving form factor for virtual environments. These practical systems are designed for small and medium businesses, call centres and customers in education, financial services, healthcare and government wanting to tightly manage data, while reducing overall costs.

By increasing hardware utilization and consolidation, the Acer Veriton N Series provides superb performance while keeping operational costs and power consumption low. Centralized processing makes it easy to manage data and hardware assets, monitor system access and enforce security policies and procedures, significantly increasing internal data security.
"Our new thin client line will help organizations meet today's reality of ever shrinking budgets by simplifying IT without compromising on business deliverables," said Michael O'Beirne, Acer senior director, commercial product marketing. "The Acer N Series are easy to configure, maintain and manage, while reducing the overall cost of ownership."
Acer's new thin and rich clients offer customers a choice of an operating system that includes Devon IT's embedded, Linux-based thin client DeTOS 7.1, Windows Embedded Standard 7 and Windows 7/8. They also feature Devon IT Echo Management software, Microsoft RemoteFX 3D virtual adapter, Citrix HDX high-definition desktop virtualization and VMware View that simplifies desktop and application management.

Energy Star 5.2 qualified and EPEAT Gold compliant, the new systems conserve energy to further reduce the cost of ownership. They also provide wireless connectivity with optional integrated WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n.

The new Acer Veriton N2110G Series comprise robust x86 thin clients that provide top-rate performance for power users. The Acer Veriton N2620G Series models are compact and flexible rich clients offering a TPM 1.2 compliant design and mainstream performance. The Acer Veriton N2010G Series are ultra compact ARM-based thin clients capable of delivering a rich multimedia experience at a significant value. All three series provide multi-tasking processing power, essential manageability and security tools as well as industrial compliance. Acer's thin clients will be available through Acer resellers with prices starting at $239.

Acer Veriton Veriton N2110G Series - Leading-Edge Performance
The Acer Veriton N2110G Series are highly configurable stateless devices with no moving parts, which boosts reliability. These thin clients can save as much as 85 percent in power costs when compared to traditional desktops. This series supports dual DisplayPorts with a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600. Both VGA and DVI adapters are also available.
These high performance systems are outfitted with a dual core AMD G-T56N processor, 2GB memory and AMD Radeon HD 6320 graphics for exceptional multimedia capabilities Four USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.0 ports provide connections to digital devices. Ultra compact, these thin clients measure just 251 x 210 x 40 millimeters. In addition to being placed flat on a table or stood vertically, they can be attached to the back of a monitor to save desk and office space. This thin client series comes with a choice of DeTOS 7.1 or the Windows Embedded Standard 7 operating system.

Acer Veriton N2620G Series - TPM 1.2 Compliance, Mainstream Performance
The Acer Veriton N2620G Series of rich clients are small and easy to set-up for convenience and space-savings in any working environment. They provide DVI-I plus HDMI dual output for supporting two monitors at once. These systems offer up to a second generation Intel Celeron 887 processor with Intel HD Graphics and up to 4GB of DDR3 1066/1333 MHz SDRAM.
TPM 1.2 compliant, the Acer Veriton N2620 Series conforms to corporate-level security requirements. Two mini PCI Express 2.0 slots increase the flexibility of the VN2620G models. They can be attached to the back of a monitor to save space as well as laid flat on a table or stood vertically. This series comes with a choice of DeTOS 7.1, Windows Embedded Standard 7 or the Windows 7/8 operating system.

Acer Veriton N2010G Series - Ultra Compact HD Experience, Exceptional Value
Measuring just 175 x 121 x 35 millimeters, the Acer Veriton N2010G Series is very compact and easy to set up. Boasting dual DVI output for 1920 x 1200 screen resolution, these thin clients can support two monitors at once to facilitate multitasking. VGA adapters are also available.

The Acer VN2010G Series is a superb value, boasting a low purchase price and low energy consumption. Fanless, these models have no moving parts, which increases reliability. They come with the DeTOS 7.1 operating system and an ARM-based DM8148 processor from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), complete with a PowerVR SGX530 graphics accelerator and HD Video accelerator to deliver a rich multimedia experience. Four USB 2.0 ports are included for connecting a keyboard, mouse and other devices.

Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the new Acer Veriton N Series thin clients will begin at $239. The Acer Veriton N2110G and Acer Veriton N2620G Series will be available through Acer's resellers in Canada and the U.S. starting in October 2012. The Veriton N2010G Series will be available in December 2012. All models come with a limited three-year warranty and customers can also choose from extended warranties and services.

I am going thin client as desktops come up for replacement. Bulk licensing too.
