Samsung 840 Pro Gets RAPID Mode Support

Samsung extended RAPID mode, a burst performance enhancing feature enabled through its Magician software, to its 840 Pro series SSD. The mode was exclusive to its recently launched 840 EVO series. RAPID mode is known to exploit various sub-systems of the machine and time transfers through SATA 6 Gb/s in a way that produces throughputs as high as 1.1 GB/s on the 840 EVO. TheSSDReview put the mode to test on the 840 Pro, and found it to offer throughputs nearing 1 GB/s, again, in short bursts. To get RAPID mode, simply update your Samsung Magician software to the latest version available, and the mode should show up on the side-pane.

It started off with 840 and 840 PRO, and EVO was introduced to replace the vanilla 840

Does it cache also stuff from my hard drive?

i don't want to buy a caching ssd and a "big" samsung ssd together!

hey samsung if you read this, i want ram/ssd caching for my hdd too just bound it to your ssd drives as a license that would make sense!

256SSD 840 Pro
1TB HDD and no i don't want my Z77 to rape my ssd as cache, meomy caching would be better :-P

no writes to my ssd for caching!

This feature is basically the only thing that stands between the regular 840 to the 840 Evo so no way this will work the regular 840.

I enabled this on my pro SSD but is this a feature that works only when Magician is working or its firmware-based?

It's probably your system. I have 840PROs in three systems atm (ion,P35,Z87), and none is freezing with rapid mode enabled.

No issue, since that you will probably junk the SSD before it reached expected total wear level.

The problem I have with Samsung Magician is that it wont recognize my 830 on my nForce 790i Striker II Extreme motherboard.

Magician 3.0 worked fine, ever since version 4 it is giving me this issues.
