GIGABYTE Announces New AM1 Series Motherboards

GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, today announced official support for next generation AMD Athlon and Sempron APUs based on the highly anticipated 'Kabini' SOC architecture. GIGABYTE 'Kabini' support includes the all new GA-AM1M-S2P and GA-AM1M-S2H motherboards based on the AM1 motherboard platform. GIGABYTE AM1 Series motherboards showcase a number of features and technologies that separate them from the competition, including GIGABYTE RTC Clock IC and Ultra Durable 4 Plus.

The all new 'Kabini' APU's CMOS functions have been integrated into the APU; this means that when the user removes the APU, all CMOS settings revert to factory defaults. Even with the battery in place, users will lose settings such as the current time. GIGABYTE's AM1 motherboards solve this issue by including a secondary RTC Clock IC onboard, so that even when the APU is removed, the CMOS settings are retained.
GIGABYTE AM1 motherboards also provide enhanced durability compared to competitive offerings with inclusion of Ultra Durable 4 Plus technology, delivering a range of features and component choices that provide optimal performance, cool and efficient operation and extended motherboard lifespan.

GIGABYTE uses All Solid Caps (Capacitors)* and Low RDS(on) MOSFETs which are rated to work at higher temperatures to provide a longer lifespan. Specially designed to produce lower switching for faster electric current charging and discharging, Low RDS(on) MOSFETs have lower power consumption during the switching process, resulting in a faster switching process and less heat generation.

GIGABYTE motherboards feature GIGABYTE DualBIOS, an exclusive technology from GIGABYTE that protects arguably one of your PC's most crucial components, the BIOS. GIGABYTE DualBIOS means that your motherboard has both a 'Main BIOS' and a 'Backup BIOS', protecting users from BIOS failure due to virus attack, hardware malfunction, improper OC settings or power failure during the update process.

High ESD Protection for USB and LAN
The GIGABYTE AM1 motherboard raises the bar in terms of protecting your system, providing advanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection for both your Ethernet LAN and USB ports, both common sources of ESD-related failures. Each LAN and USB port is paired with a dedicated protection filter that can withstand high electrostatic discharges, protecting your system from common electrical surges and even direct lighting strikes.

AMD 'Kabini' Platform Highlights
The latest AMD Athlon and Sempron APUs are based on the 'Kabini' SOC architecture and integrate up to 4 CPU Cores and a Radeon R3 Series Graphics core. Supporting Windows 8.1, AMD Mantel and DirectX 11.2 graphics, the new AMD Athlon and Sempron APUs also offer native support for 4K resolution displays through HDMI. The new AM1 platform also features native USB 3.0 and SATA Revision 3 (6Gb/s) support.

4K Ultra HD Support
GIGABYTE AM1 series motherboards provide native 4K support with integrated AMD Radeon R3 Series graphics via HDMI. 4K resolution is the next technological milestone in high-definition content delivery, utilizing approximately 4,000 pixels on the horizontal axis, more than four times today's standard HD pixel density.

I wonder what the cooler on that board with the PCI classic slot is for....
Would be nice to know what's under that cooler. The PCIe to PCI bridge isn't that's right next to it...
